In times of peace Christmas festivities are the jolliest of the year. During
the war, people celebrated the holiday as best they could. Charles James
Winston, who served in Co. G, 11th Virginia Infantry Regiment, Army of
Northern Virginia, wrote from Centerville, Virginia, on December 27, 1861:

He and Mary WATTS WILLIAMS, some times called Polly left Greenbrier with
their children and went to Walnut Twp, Gallia Co., Ohio in 1817. He
served in the Rev War from 1780 - 1781 (18 months). Was in the battle at
Camden Court House, SC , Guilford and Siege of 96.

I am looking for descendants of James Hereford who died in Fairfax Co in
1720/1. He left a will, but unfortunately, the actual will is no longer
extant. Only the index to the will book has survived, so we have no
particulars on his wife or his descendants, except for one son JOHN.
JOHn is proved as a son by deed evidence in which a 2 generation
lineage is spelled out in the deed. Fron this old record we know that
James was John's father, and this is the same John who married Margaret
Ammons.
