Very likely he died during the civil war as I think a large fraction of the young men of this area were lost.
I did a quick check of my database but did not get a match. Most of Duncans from Giles area descend from either William Duncan b. ca. 1761 or Rev. Landon Duncan.

John Stuart and Edmonia Davis were my gg grandparents. Their daughter Hattie Pearl Stuart married my great grandfather William Henry Cowden/ They had several other children also.
