Looking for info on artist John Adams Elder, 1833-1895. Looking for both
family info as well as biographical info, if anyone knows. He was an artist in
the Civil War years.
I do know he was born in Fredericksburg, went to New York for a short time,
and then to Germany. He returned to Fredericksburg to serve for the
Confederacy in the Civil War. Also lived and exhibited his work in Richmond at some

I was wondering if anyone would be able to search a death index or an obit
lookup for George Henry Clay Rowe, other ways he spelled his name were George H
C Rowe, and Clay Rowe. Survivors may have included wife Virginia SLEDD
Rowe and son Eustace Conway Rowe.
He died on 3/7/1878, I believe he may have died in a hospital or an
institution of some sort, but not entirely sure

suspicious activity, plus they were or had already joined Union forces. 19
other Fredericksburg men were being held in the Old Capitol Prison by the
