OOPS! Forgot this one...got some HERNDON and COLE from Bethel United Methodist Church in Rochelle (Madison County) VA.
2. [VAMADISO-L] HOOD or HEAD in Octonia area 1730s [1]
In 1733 Robert BEVERLY willed 200 acres of land to Anthony HEAD. Evidently HEAD was already living on the land in 1733. This land was called "Octonia" and supposedly was located in an area that was then in Spotsylvania Co. but is now Greene Co. HEAD's tract was on Clow run. Can anyone tell me where Octonia and Clow run would be on a modern map? I have tried the GNIS site and came up empty. Also, does anyone know anything about this Anthony HEAD? Hi all, I visited these cemeteries this weekend in Madison and Albemarle Counties, VA and took notes off headstones with these surnames: MARSHALL, HERNDON, JACKSON, HARRISON, COX, EDDINS and some EAHEARTs and COLEs. Hi: I saw in your notes where you had visited several cemeteries in Madison Co., VA and offered to do lookups from your notes. You probably do not have any Coats/Coats names on your list but if you do I would appreciate any information. My Coats were James and Nancy Howell Coats born late 1700's and died in 1862 and 1870's. Hetty Swindall Sutherland, age 102 yrs., died on June 6, 2004 in Clintwood, VA. She was the co-author of a book on the genealogy of her ancestors, with her husband Elihu Jasper Sutherland. The name of the book is "Austin-Swindall Families 1622-1995 in VA and NC". This book is available for private sale, as well is at the Dickenson County Public LIbrary, at Clintwood, VA. for free research.
