19. Newspapers of the late 1800's [0.985219]
My great grandmother died in Blacksburg between 1880 and 1900. Was there a local newspaper that might have carried an obituary for her? And where might I find an archive of such a newspaper? I can't find any record of her birth or marriage and don't want to order a death certificate with a 20 year span to search. The only area newspaper I can locate online is the Roanoke Times. Floyd County, Va. Courthouse has a very good complete set of marriage records which include almost all of the Hylton's. You can also look for John (1665) in New Kent, Virginia. I found marriage license/bonds, land records, and with the help of many residents, even located the graves and got pictures of tombstones. DiamondsDelight@aol.com

I have several lines from your area or at least I think they are from your area. They are Sufflebarger, Anderson, King and more. I think this area may have become Pulaski Co. later. I hope to find the name of Jacob Anderson's wife. I know her first name is Drucilla because their tombstone is on our property in So. IL. I am referring to the son of Jacob Anderson who married Christina Wysor from Montgoemery Co. VA. I would love to hear from anyone from these lines. Sharon

Phoebe, In 1880 Berdine Akers on census in Montgomery county, VA with parents Daniel and Ellen Akers. Berdine's brothers listed are Albert, Sparrell and sister listed is Andelia. It appears from census records that Daniel may be the son of William and Lydia Akers. I have copies of the 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1910 census images if you'd like copies of them. Rena If you are a writer, you should know the meaning of the word critical when used in regard to evaluating books, reports, etc. Using the word critical to mean a negative evaluation of something is only one meaning of the word.
