I have not been able to find records for John prior to 1790 in Waterford.
Any information greatly appreciated.

Obit states that he was a Rev War pensioner, and that he moved to Waterford
51 years ago, this is an error as first child was born 1790 in Waterford

Hi Caro:
Can't answer your question directly but I have the Expanded Index to
Caverly's History of Pittsford VT and both names are in the index. I knew
of course there were lots of Hopkins names as they are connected to one of
my Pittsford names but the index also lists many Drury names also. The LDS
has microfilmed the town records of Pittsford.

I am still looking, but thus far have had no luck, for a book
entitled:
"Pownal: A Vermont Town's Two Hundred Years and More", by Joseph

Published by the Pownal Bicentennial Committee, 1977.
I would like to purchase a copy of this book, so if you have a copy
you no longer want, or if you know where I might purchase one, I would
really appreciate hearing from you.

I have even contacted the author, Joseph Parks, but he wasn't able to

I don't know if this is the same train wreck someone asked about but in the
Winter 1969 issue of Vermont Life is an article entitled, "Disaster at the
White River Train Bridge", a chapter from the book TRAIN WRECK! just
published ('69?) by the Stephen Greene Press, written by the eminent rail
historian, Wesley S. Griswold." The train wreck occurred on February 5,
1887 near West Hartford. Fascinating article - maybe the book is still
available? Hope this helps. Sue Spain
Hi, All.
The HOISINGTON family I'm researching has a lot of alternative spellings
(more than 20 so far), some of which are names that are common to
non-related families in Vermont. In order to verify which persons of these
spellings are actually Hoisingtons, I'd be interested in hearing from
anyone researching the following surnames in Vermont (1770-1820):
NAME (County)
HARINGTON (Windsor)
HARRINTON (Windsor)
HASELTIN (Chittenden)
HASELTON (Caledonia, Orange)
HASLETON (Chittenden)

Is there a book on this town and county that contains genealogy records of the families living
there.

Searching for my 'grandma' Amarilla who died very young after her 4th child -

Bradford Tinkham, b. 7 Feb 1824 in VT, M. Charles Orrin (sp. varies)
POST 30 March 1846 in Geauga Co., OH, d. March 1906 probably Johnson

them. After Charles died in 1860, Mary remarried and moved to
Nebraskato live near her oldest daughter, Esther Alma POST m. Oscar

Would be interested in finding Mary's VT ancestors.

I'm looking for Charles SMITH who was born in Vermont and then moved on to
Massachusetts where he married a woman with the first name of Chloe or the
name Chloe is a nickname for a more formal name. Any information anyone has
would be appreciated and I will gladly share what I have. Family names that
may belong to this family are Luther, John, Harrison, Albert, and Harry, just
to name a few. If any of this rings a bell please contact me.

The Boulder
On the top of the hill in the cow pasture of my home farm
stands a large boulder-like rock. It rests on a slanting ledge
and if appearances were a true indication of fact, any slight
motion of the earth might send it crashing through my home.
But it has stood there for many years, quite a few over the
century and nothing has given any cause for alarm. It has

The Minister's Muskmelon
It was coustomary in early times to make cider
brandy. Even the minister was not backward in sam-

to come over one evening and have some melons. The

As I mentioned in my original message for the first set (1816-1820),
these extracts have been done by Dawn Hance of Rutland, VT, typed and

Hi,
Yes, I am researching the Cady line in Vermont. The last time I was up
(November) I went to Middlesex and found that Chet's grandfather's father
had died in Worster but is buried in Middlesex.
Edward L. Cady was buried in Randolph, Vt. Jan 14, 1939. I am wondering
if this is my husband's grandfather because his name was Edward M. Cady
according to his marriage license dated Dec. 25, 1900, to Alma Shatney.

Hi,
I am hoping that there are others like me out there in New Hampshire and
Vermont who have an interest in the Straw family. I know the name is
strong in New Hampshire and I have Straw ties to Stowe, Vermont.
I would like to see a new family forum added to GenForum for the Straw
family. The GenForum process for adding a new family forum is that they
get enough requests to add a specific name.
If you are interested, please go to:
http://genforum.genealogy.com/new.html
and mail in a request for Straw.

Hi Listers! A while ago I mentioned I had been given some old papers that
had some intresting tidbits, i.e. some exerpts from a soilders journal, old
epitaphs, Stories, home remedies. They appeared to have been put together
as a book...do not know if it ever got that far. I do not have the whole
scrpit but about 90 pages of it.
I sent a copy of this off to our great list owner, Joe, who has given the
okay to have them put on the Vermont List page. The problemis, I do not
know how to do this. At the ti
