Hi! I am new to your list and am trying to locate more information on my
paternal ancestors.
I am looking for the family of my gggrandfather, Gideon John WOODWARD who
was born in Hartland, (Windsor County) Vermont November 22, 1820. During
Gideon's life, he attended and graduated from Louisianna Medical School in
New Orleans (Now Tulane University). In 1848 he left for California and
became a miner. In the California 1850 census, another WOODWARD named
Erastus, also from Vermont shared his dwelling (I
I feel I owe list members an apology, especially Flora. My comments were not intended to be disparaging -- but only to point out that, in genealogy, one often has to "take the long view" -- and learn to enjoy the "hunt" as much as anything else.
I have offered to Flora to look up her ancestor in the vital records, if she thinks he died in Vermont.

This is the home page of Rev Gary Dudley. He has many DUDLEY lines taken from
various sources. I myself have sent him my Francis DUDLEY of Concord line. He
has also used the Dudley Genealogy by Dean Dudley. Rev Gary is having the
Concord line published by Heritage Books in the near future.

Hi list,
Boy, do I need help. I am trying to find and obtain the birth records
of my great grandfather. According to his death records in Lowell, Ma.,
he was born in Wolcott, VT. I have written to the state archives in VT
and they had no record of him. I then wrote to the town of Wolcott. I
just got a reply back from them. "We were unable to find anyone by the
name of Elkinah or Nelker Richardson. In fact, we didn't have anyone
born on Sept. 13, 1855." Now what do I do? I will give the particulars
Someone asked about an epidemic in 1803. The following list which I
copied, was something I received yesterday in another newsletter and
yes, it shows there was an epidemic of "New York Yellow Fever" in 1803.
Also note 1793 - Vermont (a putrid fever) and influenza.
Some of the past major epidemics in the United States
I received this on another list - very informative! But
always in the case of someone elses research - you need
to check out these dates to your own satisfaction.

Greetings to all the great members of this list,
Just wanted to let you know I am back from Vermont and wish I could have
stayed forever! The feelings we felt while visiting sites in southern
Rutland and northern Bennington Counties were incredible. We even ended up
in the Rutland Herald! A photographer from the paper was taking a picture of
a Wallingford antique shop as we entered and my son and I were featured in a
Flag Day photograph in Tuesday's Herald. What a nice souvenir!

Thanks to everyone who responded with information regarding newspapers

I have a feeling and need for some understanding of the history of Panton,
Addison Co., VT. Can anyone direct to such information?
I recieved a note from VT vital records stating; Panton annexed to Weybridge
& Vergennes late 1700.
Also my VT research is on the family of Jesse Bishop of the mid 1700s.
That should keep me busy for a long time.

Also Joe thank you for the primer.
Hello. I am new to the list and thought I would throw in some names and see
if ANYONE is researching the same. Wishful thinking probably!
I am researching the CONE family. According to my records, the CONE family
hit Vermont in the late 1700s or early 1800s. Joseph CONE was born in Haddam,
CT but eventually made his way through Vermont and I believe into New York.
His son Enoch CONE Sr. was born in Litchfield County, CT on Nov. 14, 1766,
but died in Poultney, VT. During his lifetime he also lived in W

Would anyone have any idea what the I.O.G.T. would be? Some kind of fraternal organization? I have a pin on ribbon belonging to my Great Grandfather. The pin says Faith, Hope and Charity in it. Hanging from the pin is a blue ribbon with Gold fringe and on the ribbon it says:" I.O.G.T." below that is a globe with "Our Field" written on it. Below that it says "Randolph Center Lodge No. 80 Randolph Center, Vermont". Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am stumped.

Hi Terry,
In searching for the ancestors of John STOCKER and Sarah (Sally)
PILLSBURY, I had occasion to contact the Town Clerk"s office in
Danville, Caledonia, VT. I rec'd back records of birth of the above's
children, death of the first wife, and births of John's second wife,
Betsy. John died July 19, 1835, recorded by A Sias, Town Clerk.
I also rec'd a copy of a quitclaim deed to Ira COLBY and his wife to
Mary S LADD, Attested to by Archelaus Sias, Town Clerk.
My major point here is that I questioned
I am interested in Gideon Church, b. 1779ish, who is the father of
Clarissa Church who married William Doty, either in Washington Co. or
Warren Co. I wonder if there's a Doty list. They might know my Gideon.
Thanks, Barb

Hi All!
Time to query again! My ancestor, Theophilus Larrabee, lived most of
his life in Preston Township, New London, Co., CT. Near the end of his life
he moved to Cambridge, VT. He was imprisoned for debt sometime in the early
1800's. I sent away for his prison record but the search came back with only
a copy of his son's (also Theophilus) marriage certificate. I was told by a
distant relation that he was buried in Hopkin's cemetery. A very nice person
went there and searched but he wasn't th
For any of you that happen to have Emerson, Kidder or Dustin ancestors, here
is a summary of the things that I have found tracking the ancestors of Julia

Briefly here are the Emerson and Kidder lines that I have found for Julia
Frances Caswell, wife of Lewis Orange Hoisington. If you want more details
on dates, maternal lines, places, etc., send me your snail mail address and
I will send you the individual pedigree charts.

A gentleman friend who is to be 91 in September said that he has lost
touch with his relatives.
May Nolan his mother also had the name Mary and came into New York, I
think after her marriage to William Owen they lived in Flatbush.
George Owen says he had a sister Eleanor and brothers Howard, Thomas and
William. There were seven children in the family.
Anyone with information please send and I will convey to George.
His brother Howard married Gertrude and they had two daughters and moved

Hi Joe,
Welcome back. I am sure many of us on the list missed you and are
now happy that you are back. I just wanted to let you know that I am
originally from Rutland, VT having lived there more than 35 years.
Share with us some of where you were and what you did. I bet I can
still remember most of the places.
Again, Welcome home.

Ferdinand Kezer married Marcia (Martha) Currier b. Wentworth, NH 22 Sept.
1826, date of marriage unknown, but assume it was in Wentworth, NH. They
resided for years in Rochester, VT. My grandfather b. 1869 spent summers
with them as a boy.
Last week at National Archives I forgot to check census indexes for Kezer in
1850, 1860 or 1870. Would appreciate knowing if anyone with access to VT
indexes for these years can locate any Kezers.
With many thanks, I am Glenna Bird
Lyndonville Village is an area that is before Lydonville when you drive
from St Jay to Lyndonville. I babysat for Edward and Judy Bird when I
was 13 and they lived in the Village which was like a small hamlet with
it's own general stores, laundromat and houses. I think that when travel
was harder or longer by horse many towns had little commercial areas that
grew within the towns.

A branch of my RUBLEE family traveled the same path, or nearly so -- Alvah
Rublee and his family traveled from Berkshire, VT to Sheboygan, WI in 1839.
I can't tell you about the early part of their journey, but his son Horace
Rublee, had this to say about their arrival by water. I have found that a
lot of Franklin County people removed to Wisconsin.
"A pleasant ride of five hours on the steamer north from Milwaukee, brings
one to Sheboygan. It is nineteen years ago, this very month of June, since,
