I am researching Lewis Williams - born 1819 Bedwellty, Monmouth Wales and most likely married by 1851. I am presuming he would also be living in the same place as he died 1883 there. I would like to know his wife and family details from the search if possible. Thanks. Steve and Sandy Snow

Hello, I wonder if anyone has access to the 1891 census for Wales could I please beg a lookup for my elusive Mary Ann TOURNOFF and her son Charles. Hello A recent message exchange that appeared in another Welch list, triggers me to once again make a plea to anybody who might have a missing Thomas William Davies in their family tree. I'm still searching for my GGrandfather of this name said to be born in Wales in 1824 and who first appears in Canada in September 1852 being married to a local girl in a Wesleyan Methodist ceremony in Wallaceburg, Ontario [then Canada West] County of Kent. Here is my Thomas William's children, all Canadian born beginning

Hello Margaret, Thank you very much for the information on the 1851 census. That is interesting about him having another wife I guess it is possible. Do you happen to have access to the 1841 Kent census. If not I will try and find out. Thank you again. 12. Re: [WALES-GEN] 1851 census look up please [1]
Hi Lori, The following information is from a CDRom issued by the Powys FHS. I am wondering if Henry was a widower when he married Amy as she is quite a bit younger than he is and there is a gap of five years between the eldest son and daughter. He appears to have moved around a lot as all the children were born in different places. I have found a death on the Free BMD website during the Sept. 1842 qtr for a Mary Anne Freame at Clerkenwell, Middlesex and wonder if that could be his first wife if h

I do not recall which subscriber posted a message about Patagonia or which Wales Shire list it was posted to, but I just received an email from a lady who lives in Patagonia who has a lot of historical information.....and links to more.....about the 120 Welsh people who settled in Patagonia in 1865 and started several towns there. Patagonia was named after Magellan era natives who averaged 6 ft 10 inches in height and were written about by members of Magellan's crew who met these big men in 1520. He
18. [WALES-GEN] LEWIS in Wales and England [1]
Hi Kathy, I'd just like to make a comment that I'm glad to see a LEWIS query. I've been researching my LEWIS great-grandparents for about 5 years, and I've been tracing them back to a William LEWIS b~1800 in Shropshire, England. And, I've heard there were LEWIS families in Shropshire in the 1700's. I don't know who William's parents are or where they came from. I've been told that LEWIS is a very common name in Wales and England, but I very rarely see a query about the name. Betty (near

21. Re: [WALES-GEN] LEWIS in Wales and England [1]
Hi Betty, I am also a Lewis descendant however mine were originally from Breconshire in Mid Wales. I can confirm that the surname was very common and in 1881 there were 37,047 of that name living in Wales and in Shropshire there were 2,143 out of a population of 252,462. I note that in 1881 there were 17 people living in Cheshire with the surname Throughton and they all lived in the northern part of the county which surprised me as north Shropshire shares a border with south Cheshire and I was looking fo
22. Re: [WALES-GEN] Job Lewis [1]
>From www.freebmd.org.uk/ it appears that there were four people called Job Lewis born between 1840 and 1844, three of them in Wales. There may be a few others if the index page was unreadable and it might be necessary to search for John LEWIS and when you find the page for each quarter go back to see if any Job LEWIS was registered in that quarter but not recognised. In December quarter 1841 a Job Lewis birth was registered in Llanfyllin district. He may be the 9-year-old servant on a farm in Brithdi
23. [WALES-GEN] DOWNS early 1800s [1]
Hello. I do not know much about this line so I apologize for the really vague and sketch info I have. What we do have is that our Downs line came from Wales originally. Willis Joseph Downs sometimes went by Joseph Willis Downs (and J, Willis, Joseph W. ) was born 1813 in Connecticut. He moved to NY and married an Angeline Benedict. We believe his father may have been E. Downs and his mothers name was Betsey. He probably had a sister namesd Sarah born around 1819 in Connecticut but moved to NY and marr
