Hi Listers
I have discovered on the 1891 census, that one of my relatives came from
Wales, a Martha DAVIS.
In the where born column, as below:
Wales Worthing
The Worthing part may be incorrect as the hand is quite poor.
If anyone can help to identify the place name I would be most grateful.
I can send a copy of the image to anyone who is able to assist.
Kind regards
Robert Jeffery

Hello All,
I have a mystery on my hands I am hoping someone may be able to help with! I am trying to find information on the following: Thomas Deveney. He married an Elizabeth Kate Clinnick in Plymouth in 1885. His father is listed as Owen Deveney on the marriage certificate. I have been unable to find birth or death listings for either of them. Family lore has it that Thomas was in the Marines, which would fit with the following. However, on the 1901 census it says he is born in Manchester. So... I

Hello,
After many searches, over the past 3 years, yesterday I found new
information on the LDS web site which shows a John LEWIS, 79, living in the
"West Derby Workhouse" in Walton on the Hill (Lancashire) in the 1881
Census. This John LEWIS is a possibility for my great-great-grandfather.
The John LEWIS I am looking for was married in Liverpool in June 1841, and
his wife was probably Isabella HUGHES. Their fathers were listed as
William LEWIS and Thomas HUGHES.
That is about all I know about them
I am new at this list and was wondering if anyone had anything that could
help me with my Diamond side of the family.
I am trying to find info about William Henry Dimond. I learned from another
family member that he was born on the border of Wales.
He had a won, Wellington Diamond, grandson Eugene Diamond. Sometime between
Wellington and Eugene the spelling was changed to DIMOND.
William b. abt. 1807
Wellington b. 1827
Eugene b. 1860
Any help I could get would be greatly appreciated
Jan (Dimond)
Hi New to list, I'm researching SAPH, specifically James.
I'm hoping SKS will have a look on any/all census up to 1861, James died 1870 , aged 69, in Neath. I am particularly looking for his birthplace.
I believe he may be on 1841 census living in Swansea (Orange Street with wife Deborah).
Many thanks Barbara
Hi Robert,
I have the "Placename Index to the 1891 Census" for Wales. There is a
Worthen (Shropshire) listed for Montgomeryshire, Enumeration District
Forden, Sub-district Chirbury. It is about three miles from the border on
the English side.
Regards,
Margaret Harvey

Fellow genealogists,
Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you.
I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used f

Thanks, that 1861 is a help. Would you know any of the history of Gower
Street, or Orange Street, name of Pub etc. This is a pretty elusive man to
find any real facts on, even his age seems flexible. Regards Barbara
Hello,
Trying to unravel a mystery...looking for any information on the following two:
DEVANY Owen DAWES Bridget Holywell, Civil Marriage Flintshire West - Holywell HOL/03/27
Also their son, THOMAS, who is listed as Thomas Deveney born in Manchester in the 1901 Census, but on other census material (1881 and 1891) as born in Mold, Flintshire. He was a marine. The surname has been spelt: Deveney, Devnay, Devenay.

Hello,
I'm still looking for a connection for Pryor Roberts who settled around North

Hello Bob,
There is a parish of Cilcennin in the Enumeration District of Aberaeron and
Sub-district Llansantffraid in Cardiganshire. Aberaeron is on the west
coast and Cilcennin about four or five miles south east. Aberystwyth is
also in Cardiganshire and is north of Aberaeron. It makes sense that the
families sailed from Aberystwyth to Liverpool as they are both on the west
coast of Britain and the latter was a large port which was the departure
point of many who left this country to start a new life.
