Hello
I am the 16 year old granddaughter of Joan (Burrows) Corney, who
arrived in Canada in 1946 on the Lady Rodney. She married my
grandfather, John Robert "Bob" Corney in Jan. 1946. He was born in
Duncan, BC and she in London. I am currently tracing my family tree and
would love to hear from others who may remember my grandmother (grasping
at straws) or the voyage over on the Lady Rodney. I believe she arrived
in Halifax in May 1946. My grandmother is now bedridden in a nursing
home, and unable

Hello,
I am not a war bride but am married to a war baby and looking for anybody
who would know any of the following. Its a long shot so although I live in
eternal hope - I appreciate that it may not be a realistic request.
- Canadian Gunnery Corps at Aldershot or other places where they trained the
soldiers, not just Canadians as I understand it.
- In particular R. Gordon Cole, I have made contact with this mans family in
Canada who found out in 1998, when their father was dying that he had

Hello Taryn
Welcome to Warbrides! As for what may or may not be posted on this list, we
welcome all messages having anything at all to do with Warbrides so your
message certainly fits in with that!
I've been looking at my database of warbride sailings to try to reconcile
your information. The source of information for the database records are the
original passenger lists from the Public Record Office in England. The
problem is that the warbride records probably shouldn't really have been
kept, as they di

Hello everyone
I am a War Bride baby. My mother was Joan (Light) Phillips. She and my father, Ivan R. Phillips, were married in Horsley, England on Oct 1, 1945. She arrived in Canada early July, 1946 on the Lady Nelson. I would love to hear from others who travelled with her. Unfortunately my mum passed away in Dec 1993. I would also like to know if we, as children of these brave women, are supposed to feel different in that having grown up with part of our heritage being so far away, we would and do
Hello,
Was born and raised at Aldershot, Hampshire in Dec. !929. Lived at
Aldershot until I married a Canadian Soldier in August of 1946. Every
Canadian soldier who came to England, came through Aldershot. All the
barracks were filled and the rest were under canvas in the fields. {tents.]
There were hundreds of troops in town at any given time.
My Mother worked at the Canadian Legion Canteen, on Wellington Street,
Aldershot, from 2pm. to 10pm. five days a week. I was in high school at the

I travelled with my mother on the troop ship, Andes, from Liverpool to
Halifax in March of 1944. Does anyone know of others who may have been
on this ship at that time? My understanding is that just about everyone
aboard were troops with the exception of maybe half dozen war brides
with children and I was one of those kids! My mother's name was Phyllis
(Coffill) Burrows from Hammersmith, London.

At some time in the future, I might be interested in attending some type of reunion for family members of World War II Canadian War Brides if it was held in Canada. The cost for me of going
to St. Louis is prohibitive primarily due to the poor exchange rate. I was in Chicago last week staying at a major hotel and one glass of dry red wine was close to $9.00 U.S. per glass; the
rooms were $161 U.S. and that was a special rate. Add approx. 50% to this for Canadian exchange and you will understand why.
