Hi Debbie,
I understand that you have done some lists of the passengers on some of the
trips from England. Do you have any for Queen Mary arriving Halifax on June
15, 1946? It would be nice to connect with either other War Brides from
that sailing or their children. Thanks to Eswyn Lyster's site, I have had a
response to one posting of another War Bride who came on that sailing.
Also, does anyone out there have any information on arrivals in Vancouver
probably about a week later? I was told that the n
If the name is THAT exclusive I must admit that I had never before realised
that Glenn Close was a transvestite..........................

on this item of published history )

We have a man here who calls himself "a reverse War Bride" because he
married a girl in the Canadian Army in England and followed her to
Canada. He is a very comical character who loves telling jokes, playing
the accordion and singing all the old war time songs - he gets everybody
going down at the Legion, especially on Remembrance Day!
He lost his beloved Jean a few years ago to cancer and has had a heart
attack or two, but still has the same cheeky smile and is still telling
jokes.

Hi! Lisa. Just read your email asking for Eswnys email address it is
warbride@shaw.ca I met with Eswyn a year or two ago and she read my story
about my experiences as a warbride as she was just starting to write her
book. My daughter lives only 5 minutes away from Eswyn on Vancouver Island
and I live in Richmond B.C. Eswyn is a lovely lady and will give you any
help possible, I know.

My mother Elsa Lintott (Bromley) was a British war bride. She arrived at Pier 21 in December 1946 aboard the Empire Brent. This ship is generally remembered because it hit a cattle barge when leaving England and had a huge hole torn in its hull. They were returned to dry dock patched up and back on their way within two weeks.
What I am trying to confirm is a story my mother used to tell about her arrival. She stated that they received two gifts 1) Canadian citizenship and 2) a fruit basket! (Needless to sa
Good morning, I had a long telephone chat with Eswyn earlier this week.
She is hard at work finishing her book! She asked me to make a list of all
the war brides I knew of as she is working on a registry. I am sure she
would like us all to do the same! Joan Reichardt.

Hi Melynda, I sailed on the Queen Mary, May 21st 1946 and went to Sturgeon
Falls. We settled in Sudbury, Ontario where my husband Archie worked at
International Nickel Co. We were married for 50 years and 5 days, from
1945 - 1995 and had 3 children. He died on his 72nd birthday in 1995. I
belong to the war bride's club here in Sudbury and have made many friends
there. We had the war bride's reunion here 2 years ago and it was very
successful, there were six of us from Brighton, Sussex, England. Iris

Hi, I have asked this question before, but I didn't receive a response,
probably because I buried the question under a discussion about something
else, so here I go again.
Did any brides come over to Canada on the Empire Brent, arriving in Halifax
on December 13, 1946?
If the answer is yes, do any of you remember two little girls who were being
escorted to Regina Saskatchewan by a Red Cross Escort Officer?

Reading some of your comments I remember I did not have document to prove my right to a Canadian passport for the first trip back to England - after many years. To prove who we were my husband, who was born in Holland but naturalized on his fathers' certificate, had to produce both that and his birth certifcate. I had to prove that I was married to him. Our oldest daughter was away at college at the time and phoned as I was madly searching for a copy of our Marriage Certificate. When I told her I had no
Hello. Altho we became Canadian citizens, we did not give up our original
citizenship. We have dual citizenship and aren't we lucky. Jean.D.

Hello,
When I landed in Canada in October, 1946, also on board "The Empire
Brent,"
we were each given a Landed Immigrant Card, that was all, and no Fruit
Basket. A few weeks later, in February, 1947, we received a letter stating that
all the WW2 brides who wanted to come, were now over in Canada, and we had all
been granted Canadian Citizenship, and there was an address where we should
apply for our Citizenship Papers.
I must do that sometime !!!

Mary G, Diane C, Pan McK, Stella M, and Joan R. Thank you for the 80th
birthday greetings, they were gratefully received by May and Gerry. They
were put up on a board along with a picture I supplied of VE Day in
London and office girls celebrating on the streets.
It was nice to see his medals and other memorabilia mounted in a
rectangular frame with a picture of him as a young soldier who went to
Britain, Belgium, Holland and Italy before returning to Canada.
It was amazing to see her gas mask from WWII amo
Yes, we brides of Canadians were told that when we set foot on Canadian
soil we would become Canadian. Sorry I can not remember the details of
the 'spy' kefuffle that caused a panic following the 911 attack on the
USA causing a great necessity for proper ID.
The consequence of the event was that we all had to suddenly declare and
obtain Canadian Citizenship - a bit of a surprise. I have always valued
being loyal to the country in which I have lived, eared my living and
raised my children in peace with a li
Thank you anyways. I believe I will have to get into the Department of
Veterans Affairs files at the National Archives in Ottawa to solve this
question as these children were transported to Canada under arrangements
made by DVA, not DND or the Wives Bureau.

Hi.again. I too have returned to Scotland quite few times, and tho I am
lucky enough to have couple of friends from the old days. it is always
nice to visit - but glad to come"Home".

responsible escaped on a Canadian passport. I was annoyed at the time, but

Hi,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAY.
I am a war-bride. I arrived at Halifax in June 1945 on the Scythia. We went to my in-laws, they owned a farm in Alberta, then when my husband arrived home we moved to Wetasikin, after 3 years we moved again to Red Deer, we have been here ever since, We have 3 children, 8 grand children and 9 great grand children we have also been married 61 years. I will be 86 on the 29th of this month.
Best Wishes to you b oth.
Mary
On 20th March a special celebration will be held at the home of Gerry
and May Fallon (Canadian War Bride who came on the Queen Mary in May
1946) on the occasion of their 80th birthdays. (This coming Saturday)
Her birthday is on the 21st and his on the 23rd.
The theme of the party is "bring anything from WWII" (mementoes) to
spark remembrances of that time. (She still has her gasmask from WWII)
I thought it would nice if some of you would send e-mail greetings from
wherever you are. If you are/or mother was
