Hazel: Thank you for "the young man" compliment -- it has been many years since I have been called that! A small correction -- my mother was "Phyllis", not "Peggy" -- I guess I should put a '46 photo on the site. And thank you for passing my query on. Kenneth Scott Dunedin, Florida. Hi Hazel, we can't answer anything about Bridgit because we don't know anything about her prior to her marriage in 1941. other than her name was Murphy. The only piece of information that ties her to anyone else in England is this reference which was on her 5 year old daughter Jan's Immigration Record: "Remarks ...Nearest relative outside of Canada: grandfather - R.G. Richards, County Hall, Lewis, Sussex." Does that ring a bell? We may just end up going to the Salvation Army. We've tried everything

Dear Melynda, I am finding the emails about John Phillip Sims most intriguing. A few years ago, I needed to find my former brother-in-law. I had had no contact with him for 60 years. A friend suggested that I try the Salvation Army and to my dismay, they found him and we were in contact again! Would this be worth a try.? You seem to have a lot of information about John Phillip. Just another suggestion! Good luck!! Gwen Zradicka. Richmond, B.C. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Penny Denby"

Thanks to Vernie for reference to Marguerite Pattern's cook book, I have already tried that avenue, and that book is out of print and not being printed any more. I have even been to the Imperial War Museum, but with no luck. So, if anyone has one they want to sell on, please let me know. Tricia
10. War Brides from China [1]
Hello Lister, I had a request for any information on a war brides ship leaving China. Does anyone know of any ships with WB leaving Shanghi, China? This bride was a Swiss Citizen, and married a GI in 1945. Any help would be appreciate. Michele PS: Don't forget to add your name or mother's name to the Passenger List! 11. Joan R./Edmonton [1]
Hi Joan, if at all possible, would you make enquiries at the Alberta War Brides Reunion in September about two War Brides for Kenneth Scott (the young man who has a web site dedicated to his mother - he writes to this list). The names are: Peggy Scott (his mother) and another person named Joyce Bogard - Kenneth has a picture of her. I am sure he would appreciate your help. I am waiting to find the Edmonton address, having thrown away the reunion invite because I knew I would not be going. I am trying to hel

Hi Tricia: I note you are looking for wartime recipes. A friend of mine, many years ago, on a visit to England brought me back a book. "We'll Eat Again". A collection of recipes from the war years selected by Marguerite Patten in association with the Imperial War Museum. ISBN 0 600 32524 5 First Published 1985 and reprinted in 1990 and 1991. I think it would answer your request very well. My book is consulted many times each year. Vernie M. Foy (Queen Mary,m 1946 from Buckinghamshire) -----Origi

I forgot to add that my Mother was Joan Middlebrook McClatchie from Worthing, Sussex and I was but a mere lad of 4 at the time. We settled with my Canadian Dad in Cowansville, Quebec. Do I remember the outside tiolet, very well indeed!! I arrived in Strome at 3 in the morning then we had a 4 mile drive to the farm. The next day I found out about the outside toilet, it was at least a quarter of mile from the house and the turkey gobbler would try and nip at your back if you didn't watch it, there wasn't any running water. Thhen we moved to Wetasikin and we had the same thing. We had 3 children and my husband was working a great deal in Red Deer so we decided to moove there, the best move
19. Re: [WarBrides] WWII Canadian Serviceman Michael Sawchuk& British Warbride Unknown [1]
There is an association of British Brides of American servicemen. They seem to be organized on a more local basis that the Canadians and I don't know if there is such a list. If your mother was from Virginia there may be women from there who would know her. Worth a try anyway. My mother Elsa Lintott (nee Bromley) sailed on The Empire Brent November 1946. The ship hit a cattle boat leaving Liverpool and had to return to dock for repairs. They sailed 2 weeks later arriving at Pier 21 December 13, 1946. Hi Joan, I am going to the warbrides reunion in Peterborough this week-end and I am looking forward to it, as I have been to several of them and always thoroughly enjoyed them. It was held here in Sudbury a couple of years ago and was a great success. Good luck with yours in Edmonton, I'm sure it will be great. This may not help, but this particular name is spelled Shewchuck or Schewchuk around here in Alberta - possibly phonetic spellings. There are possibly 20 variant spellings for most names. You must look far and wide. Put the name in Google and see what happens. Good Luck and keep trying. I do a lot of genealogy and know how long it can take to trace someone. Hazel
