Dear Listers,
I am trying to find my great grandmothers birth. Her name was Margaret Ellen
Jones and she was born about 1858 in Llanfair Caereinion. Her fathers name
was Evan Jones. I can't find her on the 1837online site.
If anybody has access to the parish registers for Llanfair Caereinion I
would be most grateful if they would look her up for me.
Thanks,
Richard Francis

You should request a search by the local Superintendent Registrar of

Jon,
Have you obtained Edwin's birth certificate and found the couple on the 1851
(and subsequent) census returns? Edwin's birth certificate will provide you
with Maria's maiden name. You may also check at the same Supt. Reg. office
for their marriage and, if not found, try Welshpool.
Their marriage certificate will provide you with the names and occupations
of their fathers, as well as their residences at the time of marriage.

Well, I guess I got things started here on the list. I had asked about the
naming patterns originally because I noticed that in doing my Family History
that my Gr- Gr- Grandfather .......Hugh THOMAS named his firstborn
son........John THOMAS and then down the line it was another son, Hugh
THOMAS and then my Gr-Grandfather......Thomas THOMAS(which later was to
become known as Thomas HUGHES) Then when my Gr-Grandfather......Thomas
THOMAS married Ellinior JONES (Gr-Grandparents)from
LlanfairNeubwll.....

Hi All,
This report on BBC News online (mainly about 1837online.com) doesn't have a
lot of information, but listers might find it (and the associated links) of
interest.

Wish to make contact with anyone searching the above family "Davis"
Eleanor Davis born 1803 Nanty Glyn Montgomeryshire Wales.
At some time moved out of the area prior to 1825.
Eleanor gave her birth place as Montgomershire Wales on the Census.
Am I on the correct Mailing List?
Any help appreciated.

Hi,
I don't suppose anyone has a match / information on the above
family. I guess Edward and Maria must have been married in Gloucestershire
as Edwin was born there.
Many thanks

Hi List,
Does anyone know if The Cross Foxes Inn in Montgomery town still exists, or
if not where- abouts in the town it might have been situated? My ancestor
WILLIAM ANTHONY was said to be "Formerly of the Cross Foxes Inn, Montgomery"
on his death certificate in 1839. He was 91 when he died.
Thanks,
Marjorie

Thanks for the kind offer, but the reason I specified Parish Registers is
because I have already checked the 1837online site quite extensively without
finding her. I also ordered a birth certificate, with search, from GRO, and
they couldn't find her either.
Anyway, if you're prepared to look, I'll be very pleased with anything you
may find! Thanks very much,
Richard
PS: I am about to post a message I sent to the Clwyd list (not having
twigged it was the wrong area) about a census lookup for the same perso

Hello everybody,
I am stuck in trying to find further info about my great-grandmother,
Margaret Ellen JONES (sorry!), daughter of Evan JONES, a farmer. They lived
in Llanfair Caereinion. She was born about 1858, and Evan was dead when she
married in 1884.
I have checked the 1881 census: there were 2 farmers called Evan JONES, one
at Hengefn and the other at Penarth. Margaret had by this time left home
(she married in Liverpool). Of course it could be that her father had
already died and neither of these i
