Hi Woody,
Yes, I have this. Unfortunately, Kerman merely cites her source as the
research of Emily Sanford Swift, and there is no supporting
documentation.
I've not had any luck in finding a source for the cited marriage of a
Mildred/Milly Ryan to an Augustus/Augustin Woodliff.
For reasons unknown, Kerman lists (pg 91) an approximate birth year of
1768 for Augustin, son of George + Mary. Well, clearly that's an error,
since father George died 1766. ;-)
We also need to list whatever evidence exists t
Elizabeth Kerman cites the research of Emily Sanford Swift concerning
the line of Augustin Woodliff, son of George Woodliff + Martha __?__.
[father George died Granville Co, NC, in 1766 - his will, written 26
March 1765, was proved in Nov Court 1766, and named wife, Mary, and 5
children: George, Augustine, Elisabeth, Mary, and Martha.]
The research of Emily Sanford Swift (as cited by Kerman) says this
Augustin married a Mildred RYAN (d/o Obedience & Philip Ryan) in Henry

Augustin L. Woodliff is the nephew of my gr.

he was a Captain in the 48th Alabama infantry.
He was a prominent citizen in Gadsden, Al.

Great, Harold!!
I would like to know who Augustus/Augustin's parents were and who he
married.
Thanks so much for your help.

I suspect these two enumerations - A.L. and Augustus L. Woodliff - are
one and the same fella, who happened to be around for the census-taker
in two different places in 1850.....
(miners moved a lot)
Can anyone give further identity to this Augustus L. Woodliff, born ca
1827 - apparently in Georgia, who headed out to seek his fortune in the
California Gold Rush?

Sandy, et al,
I find two (at least) Augustine Woodliff's.
FromPage 94 of my copy of Elizabeth Ann Kerman's Woodlief genealogy:
"Although Army records show that Augustine Woodliffe died in an Army Hospital
in Washington, D. C. in 1814, his will was not probabted by his wife until
1819 in Clark County, Georgia. Mildred Ryan Woodliff died in 1823.
Augustine and Midred had the following children:
William W. married Nancy G. Pearce
John married Tabitha Wilson
Littleberry married Susy Trublefield
Whitehead
Various researchers seem to place Whitehead Woodliff in different
branches within the line of an Augustus/Augustin Woodliff said to have
married a Mildred "Milly" Ryan in Henry Co, VA.
(some place Whitehead as the son of Augustus + Mildred Ryan; another
places Whitehead as their grandson via George Franklin Woodliff &
Isabella Henderson, which does not seem likely since George & Isabella
md in 1822 in Hall Co, GA)
