Listers,
Well, by 1880, we definitely know we have Woodliefs in
the U.S. who did not originate with Capt John in
Virginia. ;-)
Here's one that perhaps someone has "lost."
Found in the 1880 census, enumerated in Fort Custer
Valley, Custer, Montana, pg 87D
WOODLIF, John, age 35, born Michigan, father born
England, mother born England
Flora, wife, age 26; born Illinois; father b.
Missouri, mother b. Illinois
Wililam, son, 3months; born Montana
[the remainder are in the same household, but
relationship to he
Listers,
Has anyone found any Woodliefs in Virginia in 1880?
Because if the new 1880 US census LDS transcription
on CD is to be believed, there were no Woodliefs in VA
in 1880.
Searches on the CD seem to return a healthy group of
variant spellings including: Woodliff, Woodlief,
Woodleif, Woodluff.......
do we possibly have some in Virginia's 1880 that might
have been mistakenly enumerated (or transcribed) as
"Woodley/Woodly" or similar?
If anyone has found an 1880 enumeration anywhere in VA
or West VA
I think mine were -- My Grandfather (Archie Henry Woodlief) said he was
born in VA in the 1880s if that helps. His father was John Henry
Woodlief and his mother was Betty Trent . . .)
Miles Woodlief
