Will there be any family tado for the celebration of VA's 400th
birthday? I understand Capt John was Capt of the ship that brought
those settlers over . . .
Any sense of family events?

I came across a booklet entitled Virginia Parish Maps, 47 pages, which is
available for $5.00 plus $2.00 shipping from

Check payable to the Lebanon Genealogical Society.
There are tables delineating the development of the parishes and maps for
most of the counties showing the contemporary boundaries of the parishes within
them. Unfortunately, there are no maps that show the boundaries of the very
earliest parishes.

Is it believed that John Woodlief first settled at Jamestown
and then went back to England to bring the settlers to Berkeley Hundred?
My husband's family lives in West Point, Virginia and I would
certainly be interested in reviving the tradition of a family
gathering at Berkeley during the Thanksgiving season, but not
Thanksgiving week. I was just in West Point and saw a very nice

I heard absolutely nothing about a First Thanksgiving celebration at Berkeley this year. I strongly suspect that it did not happen, because my hubby reads several newspapers in the area very carefully, and he always sees anything about the Woodliefs, etc.

For those or you hoping to work-in some research with your holiday
travels, a general reminder to first call or check the website of the
archival repository or library you're planning to visit. Many such
facilities alter their operational hours duirng the period between
Thanksgiving and New Years'.
The "good news" is that this time period also tends to be the least
crowded at most libraries and archives, so if the facilities' hours
fit your schedule, it can be the best time of the yea
Miles,
I believe the "America's 400th Birthday" celebration you're referring
to concerns the commemoration of the first settlement (1607) at
Jamestown. While Capt. John Woodlief of Berkeley Hundred is not
credited with bringing or being among the 1607 settlers to Jamestown,
he is believed to be one-and-the-same as the John Woodlief,
gentleman, who was among the ancient planters of the 2nd Virginia
Charter, i.e. the 1609 Jamestown settlers. So the America's 400th
Birthday celebration certainly
