Dear Listers:
Beginning Friday morning, February 23 at 8:00 am Pacific Standard Time,
Rootsweb will begin maintenance on its servers. I understand this to mean
both web pages and mailing lists will be sporadically inaccessible
throughout the day.
According to Rootsweb, the downtime will be limited as much as possible and
"will return with increased
performance and reliability for future growth."
Bear with us while we grow.

Mike,
Just finished reading your updated Migration Summary and thoroughly enjoyed it. As my ancestors came from both WVA and VA, I am most interested in migration into those areas. Keep up the great work.

Hi;
I have the Church Minutes of the Coal Marsh Baptist Church Minutes from 1838 - 1861.
In the book, it mentions a Methodist church, but doesn't say where it is-either in Raleigh or Fayette, does anyone have anything on that?
I would like to find information about the early churches and different religions to put on the Raleigh Co Website, so if anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.
The book also mentions that a member left to join the Campbellites.
Anyone have any information on Campbellites?
Thank

Gracie,
One of my ancestors became a "Campbellite" preacher in the 1840s in Giles
Co, VA, so I looked into it a bit. It was basically a conservative movement
to return to primitive Christianity, and believed in the universality of
atonement. It got its name from the movement's leader, Alexander Campbell,
but is more properly known as the Disciples of Christ or the Church of
Christ. The following is a short background piece from the Center for
Restoration Studies at http://www.bible.acu.edu/crs/doc/cblt.htm

I did a Google search and found that they've changed their address (and
apparently without linking to their old "Local Scene" page). So for those
of you who, like me, start their day by reading the on-line Beckley paper
