Dear Listers: Beginning Friday morning, February 23 at 8:00 am Pacific Standard Time, Rootsweb will begin maintenance on its servers. I understand this to mean both web pages and mailing lists will be sporadically inaccessible throughout the day. 13. RE: [WVFAYETT] Churches [1]
Gracie, One of my ancestors became a "Campbellite" preacher in the 1840s in Giles Co, VA, so I looked into it a bit. It was basically a conservative movement to return to primitive Christianity, and believed in the universality of atonement. It got its name from the movement's leader, Alexander Campbell, but is more properly known as the Disciples of Christ or the Church of Christ. The following is a short background piece from the Center for Restoration Studies at http://www.bible.acu.edu/crs/doc/cblt.htm
