1. Re: [WVMARSHA] Antler Hotel [1]
My memory is lousy and I do not have my research note at the moment. This was part of the Historic District in downtown Cameron. You might address this question to the Cameron City Library or Cameron Area Preservation Society c/o the Cameron City Library. There were at least two Hotels. One was were the Moose Lodge is and the other faced Rail Road Street where there is now a bar and the restarant. Betty ----- Original Message ----- From: Pat Bondonese To: Sent
2. Re: [WVMARSHA] Railroad? [1]
Judy, Many people, especially us Irish, were employed by the railroad in Marshall and Wetzel counties. My g-g-grandfather John Barrett was a stonemason who came first to Greene county from the Barony of Tirawley, County Mayo, Ireland prior to 1850 and ended up settling between Littleton and Endicott in Wetzel county. His trade and the fact that he was Irish made him a perfect choice to work as a boss on one of the Irish crews that built the Boardtree tunnel out along the Marshall/ Wetzel county line. My
3. Re: [WVMARSHA] Birth / Death / Marriage / Records [1]
Births and deaths did not begin to be kept regularly in (now) WV in 1853. Marshall County did not form from Ohio County until 1835. Any records pervious to that would be registered in Ohio County. There are some Ohio County marriage records from the late 18th century. Although deaths were not recorded then, wills and estate settlements were. I do not know why they did not record births earlier. Maybe they did not expect the new babies to live long. Baptism records exist for some churches but they are spot

Within the last couple of months there were several posts about railroads and how to get information about employees, etc. I haven't done a search on their query archives, so I don't know how difficult it will be to locate the old posts--- or you can post a new query and hopefully the person or persons who wrote about it are still on board. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Also, yesterday someone posted a unique site.
