Hi I am new to the list. I am looking for information on my great great grandfather Hubert Oscar McDowell. He may have been born in NC in 1880 but by the age of 13 (abt 1893) he was working in the coalmines of McDowell Co. He was married to Mamie Johnson sometime before 1903. Hubert also has a twin brother named Will or William. Their parents were murdered when they were 2 or 3 years old and they were raised by their mothers parents. 5. George Charles family [1]

I don't have access to McDowell County census records. I am researching The family of George Charles, Jr. who married Abigail Payne(Paign) daughter of David and Lear Payne. They were married Aug. 10, 1823 in Pike Co., Ky. After their marriage they moved back to Tazewell Co., Va. (present day McDowell Co., WV.) close to her parents.
