Looking for Harvey Bailey family of McDowell and Buchanan Counties.
Harvey b. ca 1814, married ca 1837 to Nancy J.______? They were in
the Logan Co. census in 1840 and 50 and in Wyoming Co. in 1860, where
he was a large land owner on Fourpole Creek of Sandy River and later
moved to Buchanan Co. before 1880. In the estate settlement in 1891,
Harvey's children are listed as: Cloyd, b. ca 1838; Lewis b. ca 1840, Sarah
b. ca 1842, (m. Thomas C. Blan

Hi I am new to the list. I am looking for information on my great great grandfather Hubert Oscar McDowell. He may have been born in NC in 1880 but by the age of 13 (abt 1893) he was working in the coalmines of McDowell Co. He was married to Mamie Johnson sometime before 1903.
Hubert also has a twin brother named Will or William. Their parents were murdered when they were 2 or 3 years old and they were raised by their mothers parents. Hubert's real last name may have been PRESSLEY. His parents were probably
I don't have access to McDowell County census records. I am researching The
family of George Charles, Jr. who married Abigail Payne(Paign) daughter of
David and Lear Payne. They were married Aug. 10, 1823 in Pike Co., Ky.
After their marriage they moved back to Tazewell Co., Va. (present day
McDowell Co., WV.) close to her parents. George and Abigail are on the 1860
census records for McDowell Co. George also has a land grant in 1861
McDowell Co., on Dry Fork and Slate Creek. I know that George and Abi

BLEVINS
MOCKSVILLE - Mr. Jessie J. Blevins, 80, of Howard Street, Mocksville, passed
away Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. Mr.
Blevins was born July 4, 1920, in McDowell County, W.Va., to Jerome and Ollie
Sadler Blevins. He was preceded in death by a son, Jessie J. Blevins; four
sisters, Nellie Sills, Dora Lawson, Annie Wimmer and Ethel Blevins; and a
brother, Bob Blevins. Mr. Blevins was of the Methodist faith and worked as a
coal miner. He
