Friends - I am in possession of a letter written by J. Simmons on 26 September 1850 from Cave Hill, Pendleton County to David T. PETERSON of Skin Creek, Lewis County. I have some questions which follow after the letter. Any help appreciated. I have transcribed it. Spelling is as it was written. Another Pendleton question as arisen from these Peterson letters. Does anyone know who "Louis F. Bland" might be. I thought for a time it might have been Lucinda Bland, but now I'm not sure. I am looking for information about Frederick and Catherine F. Thorn who were in the Pendleton County area in the 1790's and first part of the 1800's. Frederick died about 1801 and Catherine married a Jacob Smith about 1803. They moved to Lewis county about 1809. I know Frederick and Catherine had at least four children, Elizabeth, John, Mary and Phoebe. Jeff - thanks. Ann Powers sent me the first two pages of Jennie Hott's Dolly family book. Now I know how the families fit together. David Peterson referred to Enoch, Martha and Lucinda as cousin. . . and they were. David Peterson's grandmother was Catherine Dolly whose first husband was Ezekiel Peterson and second was Nicholas D. Anyone out there researching the DOLLY family. Looking for info on Enoch Dolly and his sister, Martha, ca 1860. Their parents???? JOY My research says that Enoch b 1831 and Martha b 1840 d 1932 are the children of John R Dolly and Susannah Bouse. Source is the 1850 census--North Fork Hills, Pendleton, VA 381/381. Below are some notes I have on James J Grogg. I have gathered information on this family from notes of Harold Collins. I descend from Adam's brother Jacob. I can send a list of descendants if you want. On 1870 Poca census he and wife and 2 children were living with George Vance family. James was listed as farm/hd cattle He left Highland Co and migrated to Brush Run on the Greenbank District of Pocahontas Co, WV on 15 Apr 1884. He died of what seemed to be a stroke or heart attack. The Fort Seybert Heritage Educational Association (FSHEA) has completed the cemetery survey for Old Conrad Cemetery #21. It will be listed with the Div. of Culture and History and available at the Pendleton County Library. This cemetery may qualify for the National Register and is definitely a candidate for ground penetrating radar to locate the gravesites.
