2. [YKS] Going back in time [1]
I would love to go back to the 1870/80s and ask my great great grandfather why he appears to have two distinct names and why he changed it! My great grandmother was born Ethel Roseman SAYERS in 1877 her parents given as John Green SAYERS (same as on her marriage certificate 21 years later) and Nancy FISH. I found Ethel and family on the 1891 census for Hull, John was shown as a green grocer with his wife Eliza and two children Clara and Ethel aged 13. Okay, looks like John remarried, Nancy died in

Chris Glass asked about how to determine the relationships of the people in a wedding photograph ca 1900. I am quoting from a Dec 1994 "Family Tree" article written by Susan Pearl: "It all rests on a half forgotten Victorian convention about who should stand where in a wedding photograph. Not many photographers would break the code unless forced by circumstances beyond their control, such as a huge group that should have been in one place but would balance the picture better by being broken up.In our ancest

7. [YKS] 1891 Census Index [1]
Happy New Year! I have just been looking at the leaflet that was in with the Cleveland FHS Journal re ENOCH the 1891 census index on disk. I have been to the website as it suggests and can't find anything specific on this product. I presume it covers the same areas as all the 1891 indexes that are listed for fiche. Has anyone got a copy and would be so kind as to review ENOCH for me? Does it cover the same places as all the fiche? Is the whole things searchable by surname or first by place and then by su

9. [YKS] FTM 1851 Census CD - A WARNING! [1]
IN view of one or two queries recently about the above CD from people who have been bought it and been disappointed not to find their ancestors on it, I went to the Family Tree Maker website and looked at the details. The first thing to be noted is that the blurb gives the impression it is the UK 1851 census on CD-ROM. IT IS NOT!!! It is no more than a small sample of the census - but nowhere could I see this actually stated. Instead, the write-up makes a big fuss about telling you what you will fin
10. Re: [YKS] Employment - Billiards [1]
If you ever stay in the Moat House Hotel at Cheltenham, you will find it has (or had 2 years ago anyway) a hexagonal pool / snooker table - with a pocket at each corner. Interesting when playing at the end of a long evening in the bar, especially as the table rotates as well ! Richard

13. [YKS] Re: Adam & Eve genealogy [1]
Hi Listers. The genealogy of Adam & Eve can be found in the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. While you are reading it here are some questions to think about: How long was Adam in the Garden of Eden before Eve was created. How long were both of them in the Garden of Eden before Eve realized that life was going nowhere for them. How long were both of them in the Garden of Eden before Eve decided that she had to make the first move so that they could obey the commandment that God had given them. "Go fort

16. [YKS] Roy's Adam & Eve Genealogy [1]
Hi All Further to Roy's message, you don't even have to go trawling with Google. You can find plenty on the LDS Familysearch site, e.g. an entry for "ADAM (Formed from the dust of the Earth)" married to "EVE Mother of all Living" on the Pedigree Resource file. There are various entries that have been taken from these spurious genealogies on the IGI - try entering "Odin", "Frigg" or "Frithuwald" on the IGI for Denmark - or "Troy" in the Pedigree Resource file and look at all the BC entries ! Still, as the
