Hello all, To those of you who are residents of NYS, the Association of Public Historians of New York State (APHNYS) have some things in the works that you may be interested in. We passed a resolution last fall to document the effects of September 11th within our own communities. This can be stories of your reactions, what you told your children, their drawings, any fund raising events you held, etc. So if you have anything to share please pass it along to your local NY municipal historian. We also passe
477. [NYGENESE] Apology to Rosemary Bachelor [1]
Dear List members, I have done a grave injustice to a lady who has earned her impeccable reputation. My critisism of Rosemary Bachelor's work was not simply "ill-advised." It was much worse. My only prayer now is that this apology will travel as fast as my previous mail. Yesterday, I was able to get a copy of Volume One of the Rice Family book by Rosemary Bachelor. If I had been working on my Rice line instead of my New Haven, Connecticut families, I would have known that the quality of this

Hi Leta, I don't know your location, but a good place to start with a Bergen family would be the Genesee County Historian's. They have indexed obits, copied and compiled into binders. They are mostly done by year, but some of them are incomplete, or are compilations of several years. They also have the index to the Batavia Daily News. These are grouped alphabetically by year, so you can look through the "L" section of each year....the are NOT all alphabetized through each letter, rather I think

492. [NYGENESE] Information In Bergen 1900 [1]
So happy to have finally found where my grandmother came from. She was found in the 1900 census in Bergen, Genesee County, New York. Having known little about her for so many years I am anxious to gather as much information as possible. Apparently her family were farmers in Bergen as far back as 1850. They must have done well as they also had a servant. I can find nothing else about them except for the census. If anyone could advise me as to where to start with family data I would be so appreciative.

Hi Ginny, Sweden is a town in Monroe County (Brockport would be its main city), just a bit north and east of Chili. Sweden was formed in 1813 from Orleans County....so if you're looking for someone on the 1820 census, they should be listed on the Monroe County census, not the Genesee. Hope that helps!!! The old bell founder! years ago, He lived within our town; He was a man of no great means, A man of no renown; Oft have I lingered near his shop, To hear the sweet tones swell, As he would test, with measured stroke, A newly-moulded bell.
