1. [SXP] BURTENSHAW - FLINT Families. [1]
Hi, First of all apologies for the cross posting, for those in similar lists. I am looking for information relating to Robert BURTENSHAW and Ann FLINT (my 4th G-Grandparents) who married in 1789 in London, England. They had at least these children. Robert BURTENSHAW (B: 1795; Chr: 1800) (my 3rd G-Grandfather) Edward BURTENSHAW(Chr: 1800) Charles BURTENSHAW(Chr: 1803) Eliza BURTENSHAW(Chr:1806) Robert BURTENSHAW married Mary GLADWISH (Chr: 1792, Rolvenden, Kent) in Ewhurst, Sussex in 1818. 3. [SXP] Trying to trace Samuel MANN, b.c. 1801 [1]
Samuel MANN died at Brighton Hospital on 1.July.1868. M. A. NASH, presumably a doctor, was the informant on the death cert. The informant did not know Samuel Mann's occupation, and Sam's age was given as 67. If this Samuel is my ancestor, his age should have been 57. Has anyone come across any Samuel Mann born 1801 on any of the censuses? Thanks from Pauline

8. [SXP] SOMMERVILLE [1]
Hello listers I'm back after a two year absence, and am still trying to track down the mother and father of my paternal grandfather. Leonard Sommerville Earliest listing is on the 1901 census as a visitor with Frederick George Wenham at 3 malthus Cott Battle Rd aged 3 months. Birth date believed to be 25th December 1900. He was subsequently unofficially adopted by the Wenhams and so became Leonard Somerville Wenham. If anyone can throw any light on his possible mother I would be extremely grateful.
9. [SXP] Help needed (partly non-gen!) [1]
Good afternoon everyone Please, I need anyone who has emailed me over the past 6 years to contact me as when I recently changed my internet browser I managed to lose all my email addresses and accumulated research emails. The past couple of weeks have been a nightmare trying to remember - didn't want to admit to everyone that I had no backups!! Regarding back-up of emails and email address book - can anyone tell me how you do this? The lack of back-ups was not for want of trying, believe me. If you ke

12. [SXP] Varundin [1]
Good Afternoon List, I have a lady of the name of Agnes VARUNDIN being married in Linchmere in the 1700s. There is no reference to the name VARUNDIN in any of the web sites I have accessed, none on the IGI, or anywhere else that I can think of, so I am now beginning to think that it must be a mistranscription. Does anyone have any idea of variants for this name e.g. Varndean - Barrington? Is it possible it could be a localised name, peculiar to that region of Sussex or even an Anglicised version of a Huguen
13. [SXP] census records [1]
Hi, Can anyone tell me how far back census records go for Sussex (Lurgashall, in particular)? I'm looking for something around 1830. Trying to find the family of James & Elizabeth Wakeford. The son Abraham was born in 1829. Also had Thomas (b. 1826) and William (b. 1827). The family moved to Canada when Abraham was about 5 years old (so about 1834 or so). Our useful census records start in 1851 (before that they only list head of household), so wouldn't help too much to look at them, but will probably do th
14. [SXP] Russell in Beddingham [1]
Hi list members, I am looking for any information on RUSSELL people from Beddingham at about 1795. I have a Thomas RUSSELL on the 1851 Census in Croydon, Surrey who gives his place of birth as Beddingham & his age as 54. I notice that Beddingham is not on the IGI so I guess I'll have to order the baptisms from the LDS. Any connections out there? Regards Jenny Coombes Melbourne, Australia
15. Re: [SXP] Emmigration to USA [1]
I've successfully traced one branch of my family to the US. The only information I had to start with was a family story that one great uncle emmigrated to California in the late 1800s. Of course having the state made life much easier and I finally traced a third cousin with whom I now exchange e-mails. I have yet to discover to which port they travelled. They are not on the Ellis Island records (they arrived two years before Ellis Island opened) nor on the records for Galveston, Texas www.tsm-elissa.org/im
16. [SXP] Military Death Registrations etc [1]
Hello Everyone, I have replied to a couple of messages over the past 10 days concerning the Death Registration of people serving in the British Armed Forces in the 19th and 20th Centuries. In my replies, I have referred to a "run" of Miscellaneous Indexes at the FRC and I have received a large number of off-List enquiries requesting further information about these volumes. As there appears to be a wide interest in them, I thought that I would post my replies to the two Sussex Lists. I last looked at the
17. RE: [SXP] Genes Connected [1]
In the county I live in, one can go to the county web site and then to the Court page and do a name search. It will pull up any civil or family law case there is under that person's name, going back years. I was informed of this one day when someone I know told me she found my divorce and my daughter's traffic ticket. I was very upset and can do nothing. I don't think those things are anyone's business. -----Original Message----- From: Guy Etchells [mailto:guy.etchells@virgin.net] Sent: Sunday, June 15, 20
18. [SXP] 1851 St.Mary in the Castle Lookup Request [1]
Would anyone have access to the 1851 census for St.Mary in the Castle (volume 5) and have the time to do a lookup for me? I am trying to locate a Robert Bacon (born c1806, not in Sussex), wife Fanny (born c1817 Devon), with children Sarah, Fanny, Jane and Robert. In 1841 Robert was in the Navy. They married in Hollington in 1835 but were living in St.Mary in the Castle in 1841, hoping they are still there in 1851. Can't locate Robert or wife, Fanny in 1881 so can't go further with the Bacon line until I f
19. Re: [SXP] Re free BMD [1]
> I went to search the Free Births Marriages & Death Index (BMD) of > England and it went to Ancestry.com. You only get a few free trials > and then it is a paid site. The FreeBMD information that is available on Ancestry.com is a free service as per their agreement with FreeBMD. It may be a quicker search facility than FreeBMD but their formatting leaves a little to be desired. Regards. 20. Re: [SXP] Nancy FLIGHT [1]
I usually find the Sussex Express the best newspaper for obituaries - there will probably be a Brighton edition although 1876 might be a bit early. ----- Original Message ----- From: ldo ldo To: Sent: Sunday, June 29, 2003 7:05 AM Subject: [SXP] Nancy FLIGHT > Hi, Nancy FLIGHT died 5th. 21. Unidentified subject! [1]
Ray The main websites I found on Google search mainly concerned the village today, and I would imagine that the Kent Fire Brigade would concern itself with today's matters, rather than their history. I would suggest that you get in touch with either the Kent Local Studies Centre, or the Tunbridge Wells Archives to see what info they might hold. Go to http://www.kent.gov.uk/e&l/artslib/reference/localstudies.html for their details Peter ____________________________________________________________________

Hello Listers If anyone has emailed me in the last two days (since Saturday 21st June Australian time), could they repeat the message please as I had a number (about 15 on Saturday and 28 this morning) emails, with time and date but no message, no sender, no subject line, 'no nothing'!!! I'm hoping all is now working as one I sent to a List this morning has appeared as it should. Many thanks. Pam cliveden@acenet.net.au Beaudesert, Q
24. [SXP] Royal Sussex Regiment records [1]
I just thought I would mention that even if the service records were lost in the Blitz as my Grandfathers (who joined the 12/13 Battalion in 1915 and arrived in France in 1916) were , you could be lucky as I was , in that his medical records (he was injured shortly after arriving) were able to be used to at least piece together some of his army service.
