<title>[4TH-TENNESSEE-CAVALRY] Richard Thompson , Co. E, 4th. Tn., Union, Bradley Co</title>

<description>It appears that the body of the message I sent on 25 Oct did not come &#x3C;BR&#x3E;when it was re-transmitted by rootsweb. I'll try 'one more time' -&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Bill Allen&#x3C;BR&#x3E;West Bend, WI&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Wanda,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The 1890 veterans census or survey was, by definition, a survey of Union &#x3C;BR&#x3E;veterans (although a few Confederates slipped in due to confusion in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;some locations). Therefore, your Richard Thompson was virtually certain &#x3C;BR&#x3E;to be Union.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Also, following are unit listings from Bradley Co TN; &#x26; the Union 4th &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Cavalry, Company E was a Bradley Co Union unit.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;BRADLEY&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Confederate&#x3C;BR&#x3E;5TH-MCCLELLAN-CAV, CO A, BECAME A, 2ND ASHBY REG&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1ST-ROGERS0 CAV, CO C, BECAME H, 63RD INF&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1ST-ROGERS0 CAV CO I, BECAME D, 5TH CAV&#x3C;BR&#x3E;29TH INF, CO A&#x3C;BR&#x3E;36TH INF, CO B, C, D, E, F, AND G&#x3C;BR&#x3E;37TH INF, CO G&#x3C;BR&#x3E;43RD INF, CO I&#x3C;BR&#x3E;62ND INF, CO A AND E&#x3C;BR&#x3E;---&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Union&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1ST CAV, CO F, I, K AND L&#x3C;BR&#x3E;3RD CAV, CO G&#x3C;BR&#x3E;4TH CAV, CO E&#x3C;BR&#x3E;5TH CAV, CO A&#x3C;BR&#x3E;10TH CAV, CO E AND I&#x3C;BR&#x3E;5TH MI, CO A THROUGH K&#x3C;BR&#x3E;5TH INF, CO G&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If you go to this site -&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;under 'soldiers', you can search for names recorded in the the compiled &#x3C;BR&#x3E;service records. I find the following in the Union 4th Cavalry, Company E:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Asbury C. Thompson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Thompson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John H. Thompson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Timothy L. Thompson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Tompson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The problem with searching this site is that it doesn't allow for &#x3C;BR&#x3E;spelling variations; so if there is some slight mis-spelling, you don't &#x3C;BR&#x3E;see it. You can see a regiment history &#x26; a complete name listing for the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Union 4th Cavalry regiment by going to the 'Regiments' sections at this &#x3C;BR&#x3E;site; however, you can only see 20 names/page, starting with A, and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;there are over 1900 names in the regiment. (You used to be able to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;download a complete regiment listing in Excel format at this site, but &#x3C;BR&#x3E;they've removed that feature.)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Easier yet, just go to this site which is dedicated to the Union 4th &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Cavalry:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://www.rootsweb.com/~tn4cav/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://www.rootsweb.com/~tn4cav/roster4e.html&#x3C;BR&#x3E;As you may note, there is a 'Richard Thomas' listed in Company E, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;although he was from McMinn Co.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Have you checked to see if your Richard received a pension?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Note that the discharge date of 7-24-1865 doesn't 'fit' the discharge &#x3C;BR&#x3E;date of the regiment. Not a certain sign, but it is a clue that &#x3C;BR&#x3E;something isn't fitting.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Bill Allen&#x3C;BR&#x3E;West Bend, WI&#x3C;BR&#x3E;(descendant of vets of Confederate Smith's 4th/8th Tn Cavalry and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Starnes'-McLemore's 4th TN Cavalry)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;4th-tennessee-cavalry-request@rootsweb.com wrote:&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3E; Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2007 16:43:59 -0500&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3E; From: &#x22;Wanda Ingram&#x22; &#x3C;ogeebt@brightok.net&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3E; Subject: [4TH-TENNESSEE-CAVALRY] Searching for Richard Thompson , Co.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3E; E,	4th. <title>[4TH-TENNESSEE-CAVALRY] Civil War Park Day, April 7, 2007</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/4TH-TENNESSEE-CAVALRY/2007-03/1174157744</link>
<description>Time for Hands-On Preservation with Park Day 2007&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Civil War Preservation Trust and the History Channel are once again &#x3C;BR&#x3E;sponsoring our 11th Annual Park Day! On Saturday, April 7, 2007, volunteers &#x3C;BR&#x3E;throughout the country will work together to clean and repair the grounds at &#x3C;BR&#x3E;over 100 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Civil War sites. Last year, approximately 4,000 volunteers played a vital &#x3C;BR&#x3E;role in sustaining these parks, providing more than 12,000 hours of service.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Helping hands are needed everywhere for a wide variety of short and long term &#x3C;BR&#x3E;projects, providing interesting and rewarding volunteer opportunities for &#x3C;BR&#x3E;individuals, couples, schools, families, corporations, citizen groups and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;service &#x3C;BR&#x3E;organizations. Clubs and organizations can help with specific park &#x3C;BR&#x3E;improvements: trail renovation, tree planting, stream restoration, litter &#x3C;BR&#x3E;cleanup, minor &#x3C;BR&#x3E;repairs and more. The event is also perfect for Scout troop service projects &#x3C;BR&#x3E;or corporate team-building efforts.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Without the help of volunteers, trash accumulates in these natural areas, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;harming wildlife, polluting lakes and rivers, and detracting from the beauty &#x3C;BR&#x3E;of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;your community. This event is a fun and effective way to improve the natural &#x3C;BR&#x3E;environment in your local community. Thanks to your donated time and skills, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;your favorite state park can see improvements now instead of sometime in the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;future.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;At each site, volunteers will get a free t-shirt and have the opportunity to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;hear historians tell them about the land they are helping to preserve. Plan &#x3C;BR&#x3E;to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;join fellow preservationists on Saturday, April 7, 2007 at a site near you &#x3C;BR&#x3E;for a day of history and hard work. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Civilwar.org&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Cut and paste the url above for contact info for your state.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Click on &#x22;Park Day&#x22; on the right hand side of the webpage&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Then scroll down to the bottom and click on the link to take you to the info &#x3C;BR&#x3E;for each state.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;If anyone has a problem please let me know and I'll send you the direct link &#x3C;BR&#x3E;and assist you as much as possible.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; Find out more about what's free from AOL at http://www.aol.com.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
