Bud was born in DesArc, AR on October 28, 1920 to Riley and Bessie Boatman. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Sunshine; son, Riley and his wife Linda; grandchildren, Laura and Dirk Harrington, John and Chrissie Boatman, Lydia and Mike Mason and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, 7924 N 59th Ave., Glendale, AZ on Wednesday, January 7 from 6-8 pm. Memoriall service will be held at Palmcroft Baptist Church, 15825 N. 35th Ave. in Phoenix on Thursday, January 8 at 3:00 p.m. I have known Bud and Sunny almost as long as I have lived in Arizona. He and I were co-workers at Phoenix Linen & Towel Supply for over 20 years. I was a bookkeeper, later office manager, and Bud was one of the routemen. One of his nieces is married to one of my nephews. He is almost like family. A really great guy with a good sense of humor. He will be missed. Lizzie was the mother of one child Lizzie and John both had been married before they got married. Children listed with this family::::All born in Ark were----Goldie a/16f, Josy a/13f, Sam a/8m, Betty a/4f, Montoy a/3f, and Orvie a/3months male In 1914 I find a Lizzie A. Martin postmaster at Old Town, Ark in Phillips Co, in 1915 a James A or H Martin was the postmaster at the same P.O. Scott Schulik and Dr. Greg Zackary officiating. Entombment will follow in Lakeview Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. today, January 2, 2009, at the funeral home. John William Johnston Sr. was born July 3, 1920, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and entered into Glory on December 30, 2008, in Grapevine, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Norma; four children, John William "Bill" Johnston Jr. of Grapevine, Texas, Nancy Faggons of Killeen, Texas, Norm Johnston of Ozark, Missouri, and Judy Garrison of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Johnston attended Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where he met and married Norma Lea Webb on September 2, 1943. After graduation from Ouachita in 1944, the Johnstons moved to Fort Worth, where Mr. Johnston attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served at Ross Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas and First Baptist Church in Euless. Following his graduation from seminary, John honorably served his country as an Army chaplain from 1948 to 1952. He was stationed at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and his tours of duty included France, Germany and Japan. From 1952 to 1964, John served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Booneville, Arkansas, Connor Avenue Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri, and First Baptist Church, in Waynesville, Missouri. From 1964 to 1972, John taught at Fort Leonard Wood Junior High School in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. In 1972, the Johnstons moved to Longview, and John taught at LeTourneau College and Tyler Junior College until his retirement in the mid-1980s. The Johnstons were both actively involved in many ministries at Mobberly Baptist Church until 2006 when they moved to Grapevine due to declining health. This land however was not within Arkansas. It was within what is today Oklahoma. Usually this is explained as a "mistake" where the enumerators thought they were supposed to also do that area. I haven't really done a comprehensive analysis of who was and wasn't enumerated. For example, was the entire Indian Territory enumerated? Or only parts close to the Arkansas border? Did they only do parts close to say Washington County? Or did they do parts close also to Hempstead County? You'd really need a map of that time period and an awful lot of time to figure it out.
