This is driving me nuts. I have a really good family tree that goes back to about 1600 and I have a French ancestor who married the daughter of a Tamaroa chief and I have her name and notes about how he and his wife and children lived with the Tamaroa and the kaskaskia and then the Osage and there must have been multiple intermarriages. The family owned the land south of St Louis that was leased to the Army and is now Jefferson Barracks. The motivation for keeping the family listed as Indian was (according to family talk ) was to keep the land and not have to pay for it. It is supposed to revert to the family when it is no longer used. I don't much care about that but i do want to know more about my links and heritage. The Indian nations didn't keep a paper trail. Also you have the problem that alot of the indian names were changed to "English" names for record keeping. There are many brickwalls in your search.
