<title>[ARKANSAS] Cattle Auction Barn, Siloam Springs, AR</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ARKANSAS/2009-01/1231133991</link>
<description>Hello Folks,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My father was part owner and then full owner of the cattle auction barn&#x3C;BR&#x3E;located on Tulsa Ave. on the west side of Siloam Springs from around 1955&#x3C;BR&#x3E;until sometime in the early 1960&#x27;s.  His name was Will Tom Brown.  My&#x3C;BR&#x3E;grandfather, Art Forkner, was an auctioneer and auctioned at the sale&#x3C;BR&#x3E;held every Friday at this barn.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I am wondering if anyone could suggest where I could look for the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;property sale transactions for this property when my father bought it. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;He first bought half interest in the barn and later bought the other&#x3C;BR&#x3E;owner out and owned it by himself for several years.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Also, if anyone has any photos, information, and memories of going to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;this barn, we would appreciate anyone sharing those experiences with my&#x3C;BR&#x3E;brother and myself.  I would appreciate any information anyone has.  When&#x3C;BR&#x3E;my older brother and I were kids, we went to the sale whenever we were in&#x3C;BR&#x3E;town and loved it.  We have lots of fun memories of the place and the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;people.  If anyone knows anything about the history of this barn, we&#x3C;BR&#x3E;would appreciate any information about it.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thanks much.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mary (Brown) Flowers&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Midlothian, TX  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;____________________________________________________________&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Domain Registration - Click Here&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2141/fc/PnY6rw2XOf71tX00uvQwwwBrkni6PIH5I8hjThlfAPz5v0E53IjVE/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[ARKANSAS] James M. Lewis b. abt. 1807 in KY, possible son of Earl Eason Lewis</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ARKANSAS/2008-11/1226258248</link>
<description>Help! James M. Lewis is an enigma. According to his children&#x27;s later &#x3C;BR&#x3E;census records he was born in Kentucky. I have no documentation on his &#x3C;BR&#x3E;birthdate, parentage, or life. All information is from various unproved &#x3C;BR&#x3E;family oral histories and census research. We do know he had a wife &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Catherine and that they had at least 4 known children all born in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Crawford County, Arkansas before James supposedly died about 1854 in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Crawford County, Arkansas: Buena Vista &#x22;Winny&#x22; b. 1847, David Walker &#x3C;BR&#x3E;b. 1848, Jefferson b. 1850, James Boone b. abt. 1851, and Melissa b. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1854 (from 1900 census). (Jefferson and James Boone may be the same &#x3C;BR&#x3E;individual). After his death or perhaps dissertion, Catherine married &#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Boen/Bowen/Boon about 1855. John had seven children from his first &#x3C;BR&#x3E;marriage. John Boen and Catherine then had three children. Catherine &#x3C;BR&#x3E;died about 1858.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;James M. Lewis posted two public notices in the newspaper, &#x22;Arkansas &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Intelligencer&#x22; of Crawford County, Arkansas announcing that he would not &#x3C;BR&#x3E;pay any bills run-up by Catherine Lewis. These were dated: Oct. 7, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1848 and July 7, 1849. Thus it appears they had marital difficulties. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;There is also a notice in the newspaper listing James M. Lewis as an &#x3C;BR&#x3E;administrator for the estate of Peyton Lewis, deceased, dated Dec. 4, 1847.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The 1850 Jasper Township, Crawford Co., Arkansas census record indicates &#x3C;BR&#x3E;that James M. Lewis&#x27;s wife was Catherine McCurdy, b. abt 1825 in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Tennessee to Samuel and Rachel McCurdy. She is found living next door &#x3C;BR&#x3E;to Elijah Lewis on one side and Samuel McCurdy on the other. James is &#x3C;BR&#x3E;not in the household but his children are and I believe he may be the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;James Lewis and his son David found living in the household of Mary &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Haynes in Richland, Crawford County, Arkansas in 1850. David Walker &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis could be moving between his parents&#x27; residences and enumerated in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;both households, once in Dec. and once in Nov.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1850 Census: Jasper Township, Crawford County, Arkansas, Microfilm # &#x3C;BR&#x3E;M432-25, Page #334A enumerated Dec. 20, 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;20th day of Dec 1850 by S G Clark&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis Catharine 25 F Ten&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis Winny V 3 F Ark&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis David M 2 M Ark&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis Jefferson 1/12 M Ark&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1850 Census: Richland, Crawford, Arkansas; Roll: M432_25; Page: 318; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Image: 630. enumerated Nov. 22, 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;James Lewis 43 M Laborer Kentucky&#x3C;BR&#x3E;David Lewis 3 M Arkansas&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mary Haynes 36 F Kentucky&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sarah Haynes 18 F Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;David Haynes 15 M Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;next residence:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Joseph F. Lewis 25 M Laborer Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Melissa A. Lewis 20 F Arkansas&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thadeus Shear 13 M Arkansas&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;James M. Lewis is not a child of Elijah Lewis who lived next door to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Catherine Lewis. I believe there is sketchy evidence that indicates &#x3C;BR&#x3E;James M. Lewis may be a son of Earl Eason Lewis. If the James Lewis &#x3C;BR&#x3E;found in the1850 census record is James M. Lewis with his son David &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Walker and if Mary (nee Lewis) Haynes, James Lewis, and Joseph F. Lewis &#x3C;BR&#x3E;are children of Earl Eason Lewis as has been conjectured by some &#x3C;BR&#x3E;researchers then my James M Lewis would be Earl&#x27;s son. I have looked at &#x3C;BR&#x3E;all the Lewis families in Crawford and many of the surrounding counties &#x3C;BR&#x3E;and not found any other James Lewis in 1850 who fits James M. Lewis.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If James M. is a son of Earl Eason Lewis then he probably was born in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;abt. 1807 in , Livingston County, Kentucky as were: Harriet (nee Lewis) &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Haynes b. abt. 1800 and Claibourn / Claborn b. 1803. Mary (nee Lewis) &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Haynes conjectured to be Earl&#x27;s daughter, was b. abt. 1809 in Kentucky. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Two other unidentified children of Earl were also born in Kentucky, one &#x3C;BR&#x3E;a male b. bet. 1794-1801 and a female b. bet. 1795-1804. All these &#x3C;BR&#x3E;proposed children fit into Earl&#x27;s 1820, 1830, and/or 1840 census &#x3C;BR&#x3E;records. It is also possible that Peyton Lewis is a son of Earl. Here &#x3C;BR&#x3E;are the records I believe are for Earl Eason Lewis. Earl was in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Tennessee by 1820 where other children were born.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;In the &#x22;Second Census&#x22; of Kentucky 1800 census from tax lists these &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewises are found living in Livingston County, Kentucky.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Clift, G. Glenn. &#x22;Second Census&#x22; of Kentucky, 1800. <title>[ARKANSAS] Lewis families in Northwestern Arkansas in the early to mid 1800s</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ARKANSAS/2008-10/1225336307</link>
<description>I am researching many of the Lewis families found in Northwestern &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in the early to mid 1800s in an effort to determine their &#x3C;BR&#x3E;relationships, if any.  Here are the lines I have so far and some of my &#x3C;BR&#x3E;hypotheses which are not proved.  Sorry but this is very long.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1.  Earl/Earle Eason Lewis b. between 1760-1770, presumed to be abt. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1770.  He is found in Wayne Co., Tennessee in 1820, 1830 and in Crawford &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Co., Arkansas in 1840.  He is the presumed father of :&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Harriet b. abt 1800 in Kentucky and found in Scott Co., Arkansas &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Claibourn b. 1803 in Kentucky and found in Scott Co., Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * David E. b.1821 Wayne County, Tennessee and found in Scott Co., &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; and possible father of:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * James b. abt. 1807 in Kentucky found in Crawford Co., Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Mary b. abt. 1809 in Kentucky found in Crawford Co., Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Joseph F. Lewis b. abt 1825 in Tennessee found in Crawford Co., &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I think James M. Lewis b. bef. 1825 in Kentucky m. Catherine McCurdy may &#x3C;BR&#x3E;be the son James listed as a possible son of Earl/Earle Eason Lewis.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Peyton Lewis b. 1812 possibly in Tennessee may also be a son of Earl &#x3C;BR&#x3E;since James M. Lewis was the administrator of his estate in 1847.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Peyton was married to Mary Ellen Lewis (mentioned below in #3).&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;2.  John Lewis b. between 1760-1770.  He is found living in Crawford &#x3C;BR&#x3E;County, Missouri in 1830 and Ripley County, Missouri in 1840.  His sons, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Henry and Elijah are in Crawford County, Arkansas in 1850.  It is &#x3C;BR&#x3E;possible this John Lewis is the same John Lewis in 3. below.  Living &#x3C;BR&#x3E;near by in 1830 in Ripley County, Missouri is Samuel Lewis b. Bet. 1770 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;- 1780 and his possible sons:  Samuel Jr. b. abt 1803, William b. abt. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1805, and Dennis b. abt. 1811.  I believe John and Samuel may be &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brothers.  John&#x27;s presumed to be the father of:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Henry b. abt. 1790 in Kentucky and found in Crawford Co, Missouri &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1830, Ripley Co., Missouri in 1840 and Crawford County, Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Elijah b. abt 1802 in Kentucky and found in Crawford Co, Missouri &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1830, Ripley Co., Missouri in 1840 and Crawford County, Arkansas in 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * John b. abt. 1805 found n Crawford Co, Missouri in 1830, Ripley &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Co., Missouri in 1840&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;3.  This John Lewis&#x27;s father is said to have been Hugh or John Lewis.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Lewis supposedly moved from Kentucky to Washington County, Missouri &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in abt. 1804 however Washington County didn&#x27;t exist then.  In 1834 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Washington, Ripley, and Crawford County, Missouri were adjacent to one &#x3C;BR&#x3E;another, which makes me wonder if this John Lewis and the John Lewis (2. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;above) b. bet. 1760-1770 and father of Henry, Elijah, and John are one &#x3C;BR&#x3E;and the same person.  This John Lewis is the father of: &#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Joseph C. Lewis b. May 8, 1802 in Livingston County, Kentucky and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;found in Hempstead, Arkansas Territory in 1830, and Prairie Co., &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in 1840 &#x26; 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Hugh Lewis b. abt. 1804 in Missouri and found in Hempstead, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas Territory in 1830, and Washington Co., Arkansas in 1840 &#x26; 1850&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;and possibly:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;    * Mary Ellen Lewis b. abt. 1814 in Tennessee and found in Washington &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Co., Arkansas abt. 1834 where she married Peyton Lewis (possible son of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Earl #1 above) and is found in Washington Co., Arkansas in 1850 after &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Peyton&#x27;s death living near Hugh Lewis.  She supposedly married a cousin.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;4.  John Lewis b. 1807 in Tennessee m. Marian Coulter and found living &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in Washington County, Arkansas in 1840, 1850, and 1860. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;5. Stephen Decatur Lewis b. June 7, 1807 Jessamine County, Kentucky &#x3C;BR&#x3E;supposedly to William Peyton Lewis b. abt. 1767, m. Lydia Bains Potts.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Stephen was a large land owner in Pope County, Arkansas in the 1840s and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1850s.  He was in Conway County, Arkansas in 1850, and Pope County, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in 1860. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;6.  Zachariah Lewis b. abt. 1774 in North Carolina, m Rachel Brackin.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;He died in North Carolina.  His wife then married Peter Mankins and they &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brought the family to Washington County, Arkansas where Zachariah&#x27;s &#x3C;BR&#x3E;children, George Washington, Lydia, and Brackin are listed in 1840 and 1850.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;7.  Samuel Lewis b. abt. 1801 in Tennessee m. Bricey Holt and they were &#x3C;BR&#x3E;living in Vineyard, Washington Co., Arkansas in 1830, 1840, and 1850. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;8. William Lewis b. bet. 1810-1820 and found in Scott County, Arkansas &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1840.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;9. Dennis Lewis b. abt. 1811 in Tennessee m. Hester Shipman found in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Carroll County, Arkansas in 1840, 1850, and 1860.  He may be the Dennis &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis found in Crawford County, Missouri in 1830 living near Samuel &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lewis, Jr. b. abt Abt. 1803, and in the same county as William Lewis &#x3C;BR&#x3E;b.abt. 1805, and Samuel Lewis b. Bet. 1770 - 1780.  I am wondering if &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the elder Samuel Lewis is his father and the others just listed are his &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brothers.  I also wonder whether the elder Samuel Lewis is a brother or &#x3C;BR&#x3E;other close relative of John Lewis (2. above) since they are found in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the same county in Missouri in 1830.  Other researchers list this Dennis &#x3C;BR&#x3E;as a brother of George W. Lewis b. Bet. 1812 - 1815 in Tennessee who &#x3C;BR&#x3E;settled in Conway County, Arkansas and Carroll Lewis who was b. abt. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1815 in Virginia and d. 1865 in Tennessee but I question whether this is &#x3C;BR&#x3E;true. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;10. James Lewis b. Bet. 1800-1810 and found in Washington County, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas in 1840.  He had five children listed in 1840 b. bet. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1825-1840.  He was living 3 residences from George Lewis and 5 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;residences from Bracken Lewis, sons of Zachariah Lewis (6 above).&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;11. James Willis Lewis b. abt 1800 is found living in Crawford County, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arkansas by 1836 and in 1840.  I believe he is then found in Arkansas &#x3C;BR&#x3E;County, Arkansas in 1850 and in his wife Elizabeth is in Freestone &#x3C;BR&#x3E;County, Texas in 1860.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;12. John Wesley Lewis b. abt 1819 in North Carolina, m. Rachel E. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;[--?--].  They are found in Sebastian County, Arkansas in 1880 and many &#x3C;BR&#x3E;of their children are found there in 1900 living together without their &#x3C;BR&#x3E;parents. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;13. Obadiah / Obediah Lewis b. abt. 1810 in Tennessee, m. Margaret &#x3C;BR&#x3E;[--?--].  He may be a relative of John Lewis (#2 above and or the elder &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Samuel Lewis mentioned in # 2 and 9 above) since he is found living in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Ripley County, Missouri in 1840 just as both John and Samuel were, and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in Boon County, Arkansas in 1850. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;14. Sciotha Lewis b. abt. 1815 in Kentucky, m. Mary [--?--].  He was in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Washington County, Arkansas in 1840 and 1850.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Information on the descendants of these people can be found in my &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Rootsweb database file:  burgess_kimes&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&#x26;db=burgess_kimes&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-- &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Susan Kimes Burgess&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Fremont, CA&#x3C;BR&#x3E;suekbee@comcast.net&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

What I didn&#x27;t &#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;know was when it dose this you have lost all your programs except your &#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;windows and such.&#x3E; When you buy your computer you get a picture program and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;alot of extra &#x3E; ones on the computer and I thought I had those of the CD&#x3C;BR&#x3E;recovery back &#x3E;!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;  up that you do when you get your computer. Well need I say you don&#x27;t!&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;So when my computer went down and did it&#x27;s recovery start up I got to &#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;keep all my files as my computer allows me to click programs or files &#x3E; and I&#x3C;BR&#x3E;did files thinking all my programs when on back up CDs were on them.&#x3E; Now I&#x3C;BR&#x3E;have searched the internet and have come up short on 2 and one has &#x3E; had me&#x3C;BR&#x3E;going around in circles for 3 days now every time I click I end &#x3E; up back&#x3C;BR&#x3E;where I started and I have done next to over 30. When I bought &#x3E; my computer&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I had Microsoft Office 2003 Edition and it seems it free to &#x3E; download as&#x3C;BR&#x3E;they are now to 2009 but I can&#x27;t find where or how to click &#x3E; on what to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;download it.&#x3E; Yes I am loading all my programs on CD and putting the key-code&#x3C;BR&#x3E;that you &#x3E; have to enter on the CD I download to.&#x3E; If anyone can help me I&#x3C;BR&#x3E;would be so very very thankful.&#x3E; I also need to find a easy program that&#x3C;BR&#x3E;changes PDF to JPEG that is a &#x3E; free down load. The PDF Image Magic is so&#x3C;BR&#x3E;easy and wonderf!&#x3C;BR&#x3E; ul but not a &#x3E; free download anymore.&#x3E; Welcome and and all help please&#x3C;BR&#x3E;.&#x3E; If you like your programs on your computer and they didn&#x27;t come with&#x3C;BR&#x3E;a &#x3E; CD put them on one for safe keeping.&#x3E; Thank you Barbara&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;eor@saber.net&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;-------------------------------&#x3C;BR&#x3E;To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;ARKANSAS-request@rootsweb.com with the word &#x27;unsubscribe&#x27; without the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;quotes in the subject and the body of the message&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
