W H BEALE (My apologies here - I neglected to note the place of Baptism. I feel it may have been Beebo Station, as two other children were Baptised there on this same date. See 'RABBIT Baptisms'.) They arrived in Brisbane in June of that year and the children attended Texas school. In 1914 David left and worked on troop ships as a baker throughout the war but didn't return to Texas at the war's end. Ellen (maiden name Wright) stayed on for many years and provided excellent service to the community as a midwife and later died in Brisbane at the home of one of her daughters' in 1952. I believe there was at least one brother of Ellen's living in Texas in 1912 and that would be why David and Ellen went there, but David could not get much work as a baker in the area and began to look for work further afield which eventually led to the unfortunate breakdown of the marriage. However, it seems that Ellen was a very competent and independant woman who lived to 81/82. Her grown children moved to the Eden/Monaro area and and there is still a "Kydds Butchery" in the town of Bega although it is not in the family now. The Primary Valuation of Tenements, also known as Griffith's Valuation, was undertaken in order to establish the value of land and buildings in Ireland as a basis for levying a local system of taxation under the Irish Poor Law Act of 1838. The Index to the Surnames in Griffith's/Primary Valuation of Tenements has been compiled showing the occurrence of surnames in each county on a barony/townland basis and the names of every occupier of land and property in Ireland between 1848 and 1864. This can be a useful indicator of the possible location of a particular family especially if the surname is an uncommon one. The original Valuation manuscripts are held in the National Archives of Ireland, Dublin, Public Record Office of Northern Ireland and the Valuation Office.
