<title>[Aus-Qld-Townsville] Fitzgerald in Townsville</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/AUS-QLD-TOWNSVILLE/2008-12/1228214511</link>
<description>Hi List members&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Looking for any information on my Fitzgerald family who lived at 63 Mitchell Street, North Ward, Townsville from before 1918 to about 1935/6.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My Grandfather&#x27;s name was Patrick Fitzgerald, an employee of the Ross River Meatworks.  He died 1 July 1934 aged 54 and is buried in the Townsville Cemetery.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;About 1936 my Grandmother, Catherine Fitzgerald nee Ward, and daughter Gertie, packed up their possessions and returned to Brisbane via ship.  All their possessions were stored in their car, in a storage warehouse.  It caught fire and they lost everything they owned apart from what they took with them on the ship.  This was the story I was told.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I was hoping that there might have been a newspaper item about this at the time.  Would also like to find the grave for my Grandfather.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My mother Gertrude Fitzgerald attended St Patrick&#x27;s school in Townsville from about 1924 to about 1935.  She belonged to the Old Girls&#x27; Association and was still corresponding with friends from school at the time of her death in Brisbane in 1995.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mum also worked for the C&#x27;wealth Serum Laboratories for a short time before she went to Brisbane.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I would appreciate any information.  Thanks Julie McDonald, Perth, Western Australia.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[Aus-Qld-Townsville] [ADMIN] The most frequently asked question of subscribers is:</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/AUS-QLD-TOWNSVILLE/2008-12/1228209760</link>
<description>Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic and are&#x3C;BR&#x3E;managed by list robots. These robots take care&#x3C;BR&#x3E;of subscription requests and bouncing&#x3C;BR&#x3E;(rejected) emails.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The most frequently asked question of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;subscribers is:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;*****************&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;Why have I been unsubscribed?&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Answer:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If your list mail cannot be delivered for any&#x3C;BR&#x3E;reason, the list robot unsubscribes you after&#x3C;BR&#x3E;a certain number of failed attempts.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;(For the AUS-QLD-TOWNSVILLE list the maximum&#x3C;BR&#x3E;member bounce score is: 3)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;This can happen for a number of reasons - some&#x3C;BR&#x3E;of the more common reasons are that your&#x3C;BR&#x3E;mailbox is full, your spam filter is blocking&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the list mail, your ISP is blocking list mail&#x3C;BR&#x3E;from Rootsweb, you have put an automatic&#x3C;BR&#x3E;responder on your email....&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If you were unsubscribed and did not wish to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;be taken off the mailing list, simply subscribe&#x3C;BR&#x3E;again. However be forewarned that if whatever&#x3C;BR&#x3E;caused the list robot to unsubscribe you the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;first time is still happening, it will simply&#x3C;BR&#x3E;remove you again after a specific number of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;bounces--3--(rejected list mail to your email&#x3C;BR&#x3E;address).&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;But as a courtesy to all AUS-QLD-TOWNSVILLE&#x3C;BR&#x3E;listers, I can re-subscribe you manually. Just&#x3C;BR&#x3E;let me know.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;******************&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Other questions asked are:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;How do I unsubscribe?&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Answer:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Simply follow the instructions at the bottom&#x3C;BR&#x3E;of every list mail message.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;******************&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;Why is my mail not getting to the mailing&#x3C;BR&#x3E;list?&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Answer:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Make sure that you are sending from the same&#x3C;BR&#x3E;email you are subscribed under. The list robot&#x3C;BR&#x3E;does not recognize names. It only recognizes&#x3C;BR&#x3E;email addresses. If your sending email address&#x3C;BR&#x3E;is not on the subscriber list, your email will&#x3C;BR&#x3E;be rejected.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;******************&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;Why am I not getting list mail?&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Answer:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Check the HelpDesk notices in the yellow box&#x3C;BR&#x3E;for announcements about any technical problems&#x3C;BR&#x3E;with Rootsweb mail.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If you don&#x27;t find the answer to your problem on&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the HelpDesk page you need to check if you are&#x3C;BR&#x3E;still subscribed to the list. <title>[Aus-Qld-Townsville] Burial details Hal and Jean Devanny</title>

<description>Hello Terry&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I am running into a few brickwalls here...&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I have found  this link about  Jean Devanny who died 8 March1962&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A080316b.htm&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;and this one about their daughter Patricia&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://adbonline.anu.edu.au/biogs/A130697b.htm?hilite=devanny&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;another interesting link I found&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;www.library.jcu.edu.au/Specials/Archives/devanletter.pdf -&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;another one referring to Jean Devanny as a diver and a naturalist&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://books.google.com/books?id=MS7-RW59FqMC&#x26;pg=PA24&#x26;lpg=PA24&#x26;dq=patricia+hurd+townsville&#x26;source=bl&#x26;ots=KsfyIKSv1Q&#x26;sig=nP434uG7B3kGqPlYKHF_ZjjGCH4&#x26;hl=en&#x26;sa=X&#x26;oi=book_result&#x26;resnum=8&#x26;ct=result&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I rang the Rockhampton Crematorium  and Jean&#x27;s ashes are in a family plot in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;section 3 plot 55 but Hal is not with her.  Hal was not cremated in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Townsville. I also checked the Townsville Cemetery and Hal is not buried &#x3C;BR&#x3E;there so his burial whereabouts are a bit of a mystery.  I also checked the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;North Rockhampton Cemetery and Hal is not interred there.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There are lots of links about this family on the internet - some just &#x3C;BR&#x3E;snippets and I also found a link to a documentary made.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Let me know if you are interested in anything else locally in Townsville and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;I will try to help&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lynne &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
