<title>[BAILES] A 1901 Bailes Household</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BAILES/2006-10/1161776364</link>
<description>Hello,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I wonder if any one has any information on this household from the 1901&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Census?   I believe the William J Bailes, aged 11, may be the son of my&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Great Grandmother Mary Selwood&#x27;s first marriage to William Bailes.   Her&#x3C;BR&#x3E;husband was deceased by this point and I am curious, if this her son, why he&#x3C;BR&#x3E;is living with his Grandmother at this time.   I can&#x27;t find Mary (married to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;my Great Grandfather John Collins) in the 1901 Census at all!   The details&#x3C;BR&#x3E;of the household are as follows:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Bailes:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mary A  Head Widow 64&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Henry  Son Single 24 worked on the railway&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Albert Son Single 22 Compositor Print&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sarah Daughter 25 Dressmaker&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William J Grandson 11&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Boarders (not really useful here, but entertaining!):&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Willis Single 27 Bus driver&#x3C;BR&#x3E;George Ostrich Single 28 Stableman Groom&#x3C;BR&#x3E;George Johnson Married 54 Detective Guild(!!!)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The address appears to be 25 Melton Street, which is Pancras I believe.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thanks!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lycia&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>Re: [BAILES] William Bailes</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BAILES/2006-10/1159963384</link>
<description>I now have some further information on the William Bailes who was the first&#x3C;BR&#x3E;husband of my Great Grandmother Mary Jane Selwood.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;From the marriage certificate:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Married Dec. 23 1888 at The Parish Church of St Pancras&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William was a 21 year old Bachelor who had the profession of Horsekeeper.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;He lived at 1 Euston Mews.   His father was a Carriage Painter and also&#x3C;BR&#x3E;called William, he was alive at the time of the marriage.   One of the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;witnesses to the marriage was a Charles Bailes.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;From the 1891 Census:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William and Mary lived at Christchurch Road, Streatham.  He is listed as a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Stableman/Groom.   They had two children, William, who is listed as 1 year&#x3C;BR&#x3E;old and Albert, who is listed as 5 months old.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;From Mary Jane&#x27;s second marriage in 1895:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mary is entered as a Widow, which means her husband William died between&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1891 and 1895.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;This of course may mean there are people alive today who are descended from&#x3C;BR&#x3E;my Great Grandmother and William!    However I don&#x27;t know yet if they were&#x3C;BR&#x3E;still alive when she married my Great Grandfather John, as I have not been&#x3C;BR&#x3E;able to find their household on the 1901 Census.   If so they may have been&#x3C;BR&#x3E;re-named Collins or kept the name Bailes.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If any more comes up I&#x27;ll let you know!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lycia&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[BAILES] William Bailes and children</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BAILES/2006-09/1158920740</link>
<description>Dear Lycia,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My brain must have gone on holiday while I was writing that last email to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;you. Blame it on a good dose of  influenza.. I&#x27;m so sorry that I led you&#x3C;BR&#x3E;astray. Here are the corrections.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The original William and Sarah Bailes had 10 children born between 1803 and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1821&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Henry&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sarah Frances&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Emily&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mary Ann&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Elizabeth Ann&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jane&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John Anthony&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;James Barry&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jane (no 2)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;So I suppose any of the males could have been the progenitor of your&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William. (I have the birth and baptismal dates for them all should you need&#x3C;BR&#x3E;them.)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;All the children were christened in the Church of St Anne, Soho, Westminster&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-  certainly not born in it!!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The last correction is:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-the original Sarah and Henry Bailes were married on 11th October 1801 not&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1811. The fact that they were married in Old Church Saint Pancras seems to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;link them with your later Bailes.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Every good wish&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jan&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
