Judith,

"Just a hunch" ....on the one marriage license of Lockie's...it meantioned
father as Issac...and mother's maiden name as Lucretia.....what about # 5
darn it fits or how the person heard what names Lockie gave or her future
husband stated!!!! OR this is possibly Lockie's first husband's parents
? No one is actually sure she is a Bandy by birth are they? Again,
another angle... Has anyone research Powell S. Bandy line?

This information below agrees with the information I have.
They, Rhoda, Lucretia, and Lewis also have the following siblings:

(2) Mary Bandy, born 4 July 1795 in Caroline, Brunswick, Virginia; died 1
Jan 1873 in Vernon Co., Missouri, and married John or Jack Thompson.

(4) Martha Bandy, born 13 Aug 1800 in Caroline, Brunswick, Virginia. She
married Nathan Law.

(6) Lydia A. Bandy, born 13 Feb 1805, Caroline, Brunswick, Virginia.

I had all this information for Cary and Frances except that she died in
Honey Bend, Montgomery Co., Illinois. That is really interesting. The last
sentence says they were both buried in Honey Bend Cemetery. Who is the
second person of "both"? Carey had died much later in Macon Co., Tenn. Did
they return his body to the Honey Bend Cemetery? Thanks for your help.

Hi Rebecca,
Well, I suppose we are upsetting some apple carts in trying to figure this
out. First of all, some people refuse to believe that Lockey Bandy is a
lady and not a man. Someone told me that Lewis Riley's nickname was Lockey;
and three researchers have her as a man. At least some of us realize she is
a woman now.

I don't know if we'll ever get a positive handle on her and the children in
the 1850 census. It does not say they are her children. In some censuses,
the census taker was to write down everyone in the household, even if they
weren't direct family. We have Tyner children like that. Remember, Lockey
herself says in the 1900 census that she has had one child and one child is
living. She also says she is living in her second marriage.

A whole bunch of Cary Bandy's children from Macon Co., TN, went to
Montgomery Co., Illinois, together:
(1) Lucretia "Cresy" Bandy
(2) Rhoda Bandy Dinwiddie ended up in Greene Co.
(3) Bluford Bandy
(4) Margaret Bandy who married George Creecy
(4) John Wesley Bandy
Lockey was with them back in Macon CO., TN, and then again with them in
Montgomery Co.

We need some records or Bibles out of Macon Co., TN, for Lockey's early
years. Does anyone have any such records?

her name in the next household is a Rhoda Bandy age 41 ...do you know who
she is?
In the 1860 Census in ILL...it's the same...she is living in her own
household with Powell and and her daughter Nancy who was born in 1858.
Where is her Bandy husband? Also on that page....are a number of Bandy's
who were born in TN. From the ages....they probably are siblings of
Lockie. On the next page is Matthias Hefley.....with his wife and family.

I'm sure this is how she met him.

I went to the Bandy Surname site....and who ever submitted the
information about Lockie has stated that she doesn't think Lockie is part of

Lewis and Martha Bandy. I believe she is somehow connected to them since
she is living next door to them!!!
The lady who submitted the information lists a Family Bible of Lewis and
Martha. Have you seen that Bible? Might want to contact her if you
haven't. You mentioned Issac as the father of Lockie....have you found any

reference that he and Lewis were brothers????

Hi Rebecca, I already have copies of both marriage certificates for Lockey
Bandy in Montgomery Co., IL.

Lockey Jane's first marriage to Matthias Hefley says she is MRS. Lockey
Bandy but further down the page she is referred to as Miss Lockey Bandy :
"I, Aaron Kean a Justice of the Peace hereby certify that on this day I
joined in Marriage, Mr. Matthias Heffley with MISS Lockie J. Bandy agreably
to the authority given in the above License."

On her marriage to Oliver Bewley, she gives the information below. She
cannot read and write so the writer wrote down what he thought he heard.
She says her maiden name was BANDY, her father was Isaac Bandy and her
mother�s maiden name was Lucretia. I don�t think her mother�s maiden name
was Lucretia but it was perhaps all Lockey knew of her mother�s name. I�m
not having any luck finding an Isaac Bandy born early enough to be her
father because he was probably dead by the 1850 census. The Bandys she was
living nearby could be uncles, brothers, etc. If her parents died, she
could have taken in the younger Bandy brothers Harvey and Powell. See below
the marriage record for her 1860 census record.

I just sent a reply to the bandylist that shows Lockey J. Bandy's parents as
Isaac Bandy and Lucretia on her marriage license to Oliver Bewley. The 1850
and 1860 censuses do not give relations of the children living with her so
it possible they are younger brothers and sister. In the 1900 census she
says she has had one child who is still living; that child is Adam Hefley.

I am also related to Serepta Meisenheimer whose husband Oliver Bewley
married also Lockey Jane Bandy, a relative of my children through their

Marriage may be celebrated between Mr. Oliver H. Bewley of Butler Grove
in the County of Montgomery and State of Illinois of the age of Seventy
years and Mrs. Lockey J. Hefley of North Litchfield in the County of
Montgomery and State of Illinois of the age of fifty-four years.
Witness Geo. M. Raymond County Clerk and the seal of said County at his
Office in Hillsboro in said County, this 12th day of February A. D. 1880.
