TN, died same year.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; According to Louisa&#x92;s obituary, she had 5 children.  All are believed&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; to be Barth&#x92;s but no records have yet been located to identify two of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; them.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Michael and Louisa were married before they came to America.  Since&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; both were born in Baden, Germany, it is likely that they were married&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; there.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Michael arrived at Castle Garden at the Battery in New York City on&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; February 24, 1852 having sailed from Antwerp aboard the ship&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x93;Mayflower.&#x94;  He listed his occupation as farmer.  Louisa followed&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; four months later also arriving at Castle Garden on June 21, 1852&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; having sailed from Hamburg aboard the ship &#x93;Wolff.&#x94;  She also listed&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; her occupation as farmer.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Michael died of bronchitis on October 10, 1859 in Memphis and is&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; believed to be buried there. The city directory listed his occupation&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; as saddletree maker.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Louisa remained in Memphis for a time and remarried to John Goodall.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; The 1870 Census shows Louisa as a widow operating the Keifig House, a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; boarding house.  By 1874 Louisa had moved to St Louis, MO where she&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; ran several Boarding houses until she left in the late 1770&#x92;s   She&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; operated the Mullanphy House at 1546 Broadway from 1875  and the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Hindman House at Broadway S/E corner of Carr in 1878.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; By 1880 Louisa had moved to Silver Creek CO where she operated a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; hotel.  In 1886 she became proprietress of the Quartzite Inn, a hotel&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; in Red Cliff Colorado which she operated until her death.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; In notes written by Beatrice &#x22;Trix&#x22; Piatt Koch (Louisa&#x92;s&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; granddaughter) to her son Piatt Koch on January 30, 1975, Trix&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; describes Louisa stating:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; &#x93;My maternal grandmother  Louisa M. Goodall, 1902- [refers to year of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; death] Son August Barth died 1901 - Grandma G was married twice - &#x26;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; lost 7 [this should probably read 3]  children &#x26; husband in 2 years.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; She was a remarkable woman &#x26; beautiful.  An early day pioneer, she&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; moved West after having a boarding house in Memphis.  She followed&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; the &#x27;Stickes&#x27; with her Rooming &#x26; Boarding Houses.  Made her own&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; living til she died in July 1902.  In her 70&#x27;s &#x26; was then running a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; nice little hotel in Red Cliff, Colo.  The Quartzite Hotel.  Happiest&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; memories of my childhood were spent there. All are believed  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;to be Barth&#x92;s but no records have yet been located to identify two of  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;them.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Michael and Louisa were married before they came to America.  Since  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;both were born in Baden, Germany, it is likely that they were married  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;there.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Michael arrived at Castle Garden at the Battery in New York City on  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;February 24, 1852 having sailed from Antwerp aboard the ship  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x93;Mayflower.&#x94;  He listed his occupation as farmer.  Louisa followed  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;four months later also arriving at Castle Garden on June 21, 1852  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;having sailed from Hamburg aboard the ship &#x93;Wolff.&#x94;  She also listed  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;her occupation as farmer.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Michael died of bronchitis on October 10, 1859 in Memphis and is  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;believed to be buried there. The city directory listed his occupation  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;as saddletree maker.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Louisa remained in Memphis for a time and remarried to John Goodall.   &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The 1870 Census shows Louisa as a widow operating the Keifig House, a  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;boarding house.  By 1874 Louisa had moved to St Louis, MO where she  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;ran several Boarding houses until she left in the late 1770&#x92;s   She  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;operated the Mullanphy House at 1546 Broadway from 1875  and the  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Hindman House at Broadway S/E corner of Carr in 1878.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;By 1880 Louisa had moved to Silver Creek CO where she operated a  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;hotel.  In 1886 she became proprietress of the Quartzite Inn, a hotel  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in Red Cliff Colorado which she operated until her death.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;In notes written by Beatrice &#x22;Trix&#x22; Piatt Koch (Louisa&#x92;s  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;granddaughter) to her son Piatt Koch on January 30, 1975, Trix  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;describes Louisa stating:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x93;My maternal grandmother  Louisa M. Goodall, 1902- [refers to year of  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;death] Son August Barth died 1901 - Grandma G was married twice - &#x26;  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;lost 7 [this should probably read 3]  children &#x26; husband in 2 years.   &#x3C;BR&#x3E;She was a remarkable woman &#x26; beautiful.  An early day pioneer, she  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;moved West after having a boarding house in Memphis.  She followed  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the &#x27;Stickes&#x27; with her Rooming &#x26; Boarding Houses.  Made her own  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;living til she died in July 1902.  In her 70&#x27;s &#x26; was then running a  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;nice little hotel in Red Cliff, Colo.  The Quartzite Hotel.  Happiest  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;memories of my childhood were spent there.  Beautiful town of 3 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;(illegible) . &#x93;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Does anyone out there have any information on Michael Barth from  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Baden Germany.  Incidentally, Michael and Louisa&#x27;s son, August Barth  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;was a shoefinisher and shoemaker while living in St. Louis.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Don Piatt Koch&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<description>In addressing mail to the list change the address to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;BARTH@rootsweb.com (takes out the -L).  You may have trouble getting &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the mail if you have a filter set with the old address.  That&#x27;s &#x3C;BR&#x3E;really the only change you should notice with the new system... all &#x3C;BR&#x3E;others on me!  :-)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Good luck in your research.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Crystal&#x3C;BR&#x3E;List Admin&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Knowledge speaks; wisdom listens.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[BARTH]  Michael and Louisa</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BARTH/2006-08/1156708603</link>
<description>Crystal&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Just had a minor breakthrough in tracing back my GGGF and GGGM.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;It appears that Michael Barth arrived at Castle Gardens, New York  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;from the port of Antwerp on the Passenger ship Mayflower on  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;2/24/1852. His age was listed as 26 on the passenger list.  Louisa or  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Louise (she used both spellings) arrived at Castle Gardens, New York  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;from the port of Hamburg on the passenger ship Wolff on 6/21/1852.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Her age was listed as 22 on the passenger list.  Still have not been  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;able to identify where in Germany they both came from and have had no  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;success with a maiden name for Loiusa.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Michael Barth (b. c1826, d. 10/10/1859) / Louisa M. (b. c1830, d.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;01/24/1902)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Harry B Piatt (b. 03/1850, d. 05/05/1936) /  Rosa Barth (b. 11/1856,  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;d. 10/25/1925)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Augustus Koch (b. ?, d. 1936)  / Beatrice &#x22;Trix&#x22; Piatt (b.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;01/03/1886, d. 1984)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Piatt Koch (b. 1913, d. 1/2/1977)  /  Margueritte Simon (b.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;04/16/1918, d. 10/16/1998)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Don Piatt Koch (b. 06/30/1939) / Mie Nakano (b. 03/16/1948)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Don Piatt Koch&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
