I am descended from Enoch and Hannah Perrin Blackwell by their daughter, Sarah, who married John Gamble, Jr. Their daughter, Hannah, married her first cousin, Gibson Gamble. Their daughter, Mary Ann Tomb Gamble married Elias Barto. Their son, Dallas (my grandfather) married Mabel Anna Sherer. Their son, William Harold (my father) married Grethel White Heffner. I connect to the Tombs through Elizabeth who was the daughter of Jacob Tomb and Jane Christine Snyder. Elizabeth married Andrew Gamble and their son was Gibson, who married Hannah Gamble. My great-grandparents, Elias and Mary Ann Gamble Barto moved to Seneca County, Ohio in 1865. They were the parents of 5 daughters and 4 sons. I would be happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Important Note:
The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. You and your husband are included in a GEDCOM I have that was compiled by the late Stella MAUGERI Blackwell, who I corresponded with a lot.

My connection to you is distant. Your 4th ggf, Enoch Blackwell, was the step father of my gggm, Ann CLINCH Campbell. I also have a number of Tomb cousins. In any case, I try to include all of Enoch's descendants in my database (as you probably know, there are many Gamble-Blackwell-Callahan-Tomb interconnections)and I have visited the Blackwell-Clinch-Lugg "stomping grounds" in Gloucestershire.

Important Note:
The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Check this:

http://books.google.com/books?id=YDdLAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA156&lpg=PA156&dq=Trumansburg Masonic lodge&source=web&ots=jrJ2As__yD&sig=w9UiXFnMKjP6OzuueOhX_mje1oM&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result#PPA157,M1

and go to the top of page 157. The name Henry D. Barto appears in the list of those signing a petition for the return of the charter for re-establishing a Masonic lodge in Trumansburg. It implies that this particular Henry D. Barto was an early member of the Trumansburg lodge which would then imply by the date of formation that it was the Henry D. Barto that migrated from Vermont. However, this can not be proven conclusively.

This does not really help you out with the Henry D. Barto that you are seeking info about...but it does indicate that there was a significant background of Masonic involvement in his ancestor's family lineage.

Important Note:
The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I was mistaken about the individual you requested the info about. He is actually the grandson of the Henry Disbrow Barto that migrated from Rupert, VT to pioneer the Trumansburg, NY area in the early 1800s. He is therefore the third generation named "Henry Disbrow Barto" as his father also was of this name.

I found an interesting link with regard to the Masonic connection. Apparently his grandfather, Henry Disbrow Barto from Vermont, was one of the original founders of the Masonic lodge in Trumansburg in the early 1800s. This occurred at at time when the Masons were under great persecution in Upstate NY and this was noted in this article. They subsequently went "underground" and met very secretly in one another's homes. I cannot find the link now, otherwise I would share it with you! Perhaps you will have some luck with Google.

Important Note:
The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
