You can contact municipal administration. There is a municipal office for
cemetery information. Cemeteries in Germany are not maintained forever. The
graves are rotated periodically, some every 12 to 25 years. You may find
some old gravestones on church property, however. You can also contact the
local church. Their faith is essential (Catholic, non-Catholic, Lutheran,
Reformed, etc.) They will have birth, baptism, marriage, and death records.

Your contact should be in the German language in a very simple,
straight-forward format. Since so many towns in Germany have the same name,
you must be careful in your research. Once you establish the correct
location make sure you maintain and utilize the postal "zip" code in all
correspondence.

Look to.......

http://members.cox.net/hessen/telephones.htm

for the German telephone directory that comes complete with instructions.
Follow those closely.
I am looking for information about Michael and Louisa Wittmer, my
great-great grandparents. They appear in the 1860 U.S. Census in New York
City as emigrating from Bavaria. Michael was age 31 and Louisa was age 27.
They had two sons, Jacob, age 4 and Frederick, age 1. Also, living with them
were Abraham and Henry Graham, both from Bavaria. As an adult Jacob moved to
Baltimore, Maryland and married Mary D. Lyon.

I would appreciate any information. My email is [1]robert.smith.fl@lycos.com

Thank you,
Robert

References

1. mailto:robert.smith.fl@lycos.com

Just one thing. Don't assume that if they were Protestant over here that
they were over there. When I researched my own ancestor from Bavaria, I
found that the family was baptized as Catholics.

So if you don't find your family in one set of religious records, always
check the other.

Bonz

-----Original Message-----
From: bavarian-ancestors-bounces@rootsweb.com
[mailto:bavarian-ancestors-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Elaine Lochner
Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2009 10:20 AM
To: BAVARIAN-ANCESTORS@rootsweb.com
Subject: [BAVARIAN-ANCESTORS] Family of David Lochner

Hello Listers,

I am researching David Lochner; from the information I have - he was born in
August of 1807 in Bavaria Germany and married a Barbara Macy, born in 1818
in Strombach, Rhineland, Germany.

>From this marriage came the following children:
A.L. Lochner - DOB August 25, 1835 in Germany Catherine Lochner - DOB
February 19, 1843 Ellen Lochner - DOB January 19, 1847 Elizabeth Lochner -
DOB February 27, 1849 David Edward Lochner - DOB November 18, 1852 - born in
Phillipsburg, Montgomery County, Ohio Phillip Charles Lochner - DOB January
28, 1856 - born in Phillipsburg, Montgomery County, Ohio
Phillip is my husband's great grandfather who married a Rose Ann Landis
- DOB - October 19, 1850 in Darke County, Ohio Phillip settled somewhere in
Pennsylvania before 1870 - He was in Newton Township, Miami County, Ohio in
1880.

I'm pretty sure they were a protestant family.
I would appreciate any help in locating records in the Bavaria area - I
haven't checked into the LDS files at this time - just wondering if someone
out there can give me a lead.
Thanks for any information
Elaine
