I guess I need to know information about genetic background and marriages. My grandfather was George W. Beard born Jul. 4, 1881. He married my grandmother around 1900 and they had four children. The marriage, however, had problems. They were, apparently, divorced twice after a brother of my grandfather died and the family moving business fell apart. My grandfather went to work for the Ward Line of the Merchant Marine which was a mail carrier out of New York. I have evidence of his travels from around 1918 ( maybe earlier) to 1923 when he arrived home in March. He then went to homestead with his mother to California in Sept. of 1923. He died in Oct. of that year of a heart attack. Given my grandparents marital problems and his constant travel all over the Caribbean, it would not surprise me to learn their might have been additional family members no one in our family knows about. This may not be the story at all, but the place made me curious. There were many Southern U.S. Beards and some black members with the surname of Beard. My branch was from New York and maybe England before that. I can't move back past my great grandfather - another George William Beard. This is just a stab in the dark.
