Geraldine,

I have several LeBoutilliers (from the Channel Islands), in my line who
married into my line of Smith's from England. Also, I have a book written
by Marion G. Turk who had done extensive research on all families from the
Channel Islands, it includes all from the Channel Islands who immigrated to
America. If you could provide a few more particulars I may be able to help
you.

Francis A.B. Smith from England married Mary LeBoutillier from the Channel
Islands, married in Iowa
Robert Smith from England married Rachael LeBoutillier from the Channel
Islands, married in Iowa.

Quote from Marion Turk's book:

Names Changes:
Channel Island surnames suffered an excessive amount of spelling changes in
early America. Some were phonetic, and some wee translations of names to
the English equivalent. Other surnames were changed to completely different
ones, for reasons that we do not know. Her are a few examples.

One change for LeBoutillier might have been Butler.

Leta
leta.sheaffer@verizon.net

----- Original Message -----
From: "Geraldine Hyland" <ghyland@ozemail.com.au>
To: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com>; <boutilier@rootsweb.com>
Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 11:42 PM
Subject: Re: [BOUTILIER] Lindsey G Boutilier

> Hi Everyone
> Has anyone been able to trace back their have Le Boutillier's and Robins
> coming out from the Channel Islands ?
> Geraldine (Le Boutillier) Hyland
>
> -----Original Message-----
> From: boutilier-bounces@rootsweb.com
> [mailto:boutilier-bounces@rootsweb.com]
> On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com
> Sent: Friday, 14 November 2008 8:48 AM
> To: BOUTILIER-L@rootsweb.com
> Subject: Re: [BOUTILIER] Lindsey G Boutilier
>
> This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
>
> Author: nckarate2000
> Surnames:
> Classification: queries
>
> Message Board URL:
>
> http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.boutilier/249.1.1/mb.ashx
>
> Message Board Post:
>
> I am a second cousin to you, my name is Rick Boutilier
> Great grandson of James W.
Leta, I would love to see what you have as I do not have much. I am looking for some kind of inroad.
My Gr. Grandma's name was Julia Herert or Curtis (maiden name) Butler, which was "americanized" from Bouthillier. she was born April 28, 1886, and died in Champlain New York March 1973.
Her husbands name was
Herbert Butler. He went by the nickname of Fred.
they had only two children:
Alice Marie Butler (Bouthillier) born April 3, 1914 and
chester.....( I know absolutely nothing about)
My Grandma Alice was suppose to have been born in Springfield (?) Mass.

she married my Grandpa: Allyn James (here is the mystery) Renny?Rene'? Renning? but changed the origonal name to Davidson upon moving to California around 1934???
My grandparents never celebrated their anniversary nor birthdays....No they were not religious AT ALL. haha My grandparents had my dad (allen James), James floyd, Diane, and Ralph Carl.
Anything familiar? You, more than likely have much later dates and names......but wouldlove to see what you have.
thanks
linda

Leta Sheaffer <leta.sheaffer@verizon.net> wrote:
Linda,

Would you by any chance have two male ancestors who married Boutillier's ?
I have Rachael LeBoutillier, who married Robert Smith abt. 1860, and Mary
LeBoutillier who married Francis A.B.
