<title>[BRANSON] 1820 census of Patrick Co, VA</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BRANSON/2009-01/1231007255</link>
<description>If we look at the 1820 census of Patrick Co., VA we can see that Ruth &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Dillard, whose deceased husband Thomas bought land from Jarrett Branson in that &#x3C;BR&#x3E;county, lived not far from some relatives of the Maynors. Bernard Price married &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Elizabeth Maynor, whose aunt Mary Maynor married Levi Branson, Sr. In 1820 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Patrick, VA Bernard Price was listed on the same page as Isaiah Maynor. James and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jesse Mankin were listed nearby and they were related to Maynors - Jesse &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mankin&#x27;s mother was Susannah Maynor, sister of Mary.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Bernard Price was also listed on the 1810 Patrick, VA tax list along with the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Mankins, Thomas Dillard and Jarrett Branson and his sons.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jarrett Branson apparently moved away from Patrick Co some time before 1815.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sandy&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1820 census - Patrick, VA&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thomas Dodson - Pg 119&#x3C;BR&#x3E;James Mankin age 26-45 - Pg 120&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Isaiah Maynor age 26-45 - Pg 120&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Barnard M Price age 45+ - Pg 120 - m. <title>[BRANSON] Preliminary report of Branson DNA results</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BRANSON/2008-12/1230241097</link>
<description>Some important DNA tests were recently processed for two Branson descendants. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; One was for a Branson descendant who lived in Hopkins Co., KY. His ancestor &#x3C;BR&#x3E;was George Branson b. ca1792 of Hopkins, KY. The other was a descendant of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Levi Branson, b. 1844 of Sevier, TN, died 1922 in Pottawamie, OK.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Only 12 markers were tested because of financial restraints at this time. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;A comparison of their DNA markers to the DNA markers of two matching Bransons &#x3C;BR&#x3E;of the Gasconade, MO line have proven to be non-matches. (Andrew Jackson &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Branson, b. 1819; and Thomas Branson, b. 1778). &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The haplogroup for George Branson of Hopkins, KY was not determined - more &#x3C;BR&#x3E;markers will have to be tested. However, his DNA markers are a close match (11 &#x3C;BR&#x3E;out of 12) with that of James Branson of Logan, OH who was adopted by Harry &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Kitchen. Since Logan, OH is also where Abraham Branson lived, it is likely that &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Abraham was related to James and, it is likely that they were both related to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the Bransons of Hopkins, KY. Once more markers are tested, the haplogroups &#x3C;BR&#x3E;can possibly be identified.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;These results do show that Andrew and Thomas Branson of Gasconade, MO were &#x3C;BR&#x3E;not related (by blood) to Abraham Branson, nor to the Hopkins, KY Bransons. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Levi Branson (of Sevier , TN and Pottawami, OK) was also not related to Abraham &#x3C;BR&#x3E;or the Hopkins, KY Bransons. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The haplogroup for Levi Branson may be that of the Viking/Scandanavian &#x3C;BR&#x3E;heritage - the same general category as Andrew Jackson Branson who married Nancy &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Margrave in Gasconade, MO. Levi&#x27;s preliminary haplogroup is &#x22;I&#x22; and Andrew&#x27;s &#x3C;BR&#x3E;tested group is &#x22;I2b1&#x22;. Further testing will hopefully provide more accuracy &#x3C;BR&#x3E;for Levi&#x27;s haplogroup.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The markers for Andrew &#x26; Thomas of Gasconade do not match the markers for &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Levi...not even close (only 3 out of 12), so even though they probably share the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Viking/Scandanavian heritage, they were not related. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Without more participants in all of these groups, it is not possible to know &#x3C;BR&#x3E;if there were any adoptions, etc. However, my first priority, when finances &#x3C;BR&#x3E;allow, will be to attempt to determine the Haplogroup of James Branson and/or &#x3C;BR&#x3E;George Branson to see if they are also of Viking/Scandanavian heritage.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Levi Branson is an exact match (12 out of 12 markers, same haplogroup) with &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Samuel Paxton of Rockbridge, VA. Samuel&#x27;s brother, William Paxton, married &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Jane Grigsby. Jane was related to Moses Grigsby who married Katherine Branson &#x3C;BR&#x3E;1742 in St. Paul&#x27;s Parish, VA. Samuel Paxton&#x27;s mother was Elizabeth McClung who &#x3C;BR&#x3E;was probably related to Susannah McClung who married James Skaggs of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Montgomery, VA. James Skaggs&#x27; sister, Elizabeth, married John Hankins whose father, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thomas, was exec. on the will of Thomas L. Branson, Sr. James Skaggs was taxed &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1782 Montgomery, Va along with Thomas and Jarat Branson. A possible &#x3C;BR&#x3E;relative of Samuel Paxton, John Paxton, had a daughter Susanna who married Richard &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Shockley of Carroll, VA. John Paxton was taxed in 1793 Wythe, VA, section &#x3C;BR&#x3E;two, along with Jerrard and James Branston.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;It is possible that Jarrett Branson of Gasconade, MO or one or more of his &#x3C;BR&#x3E;relatives/descendants was adopted. Andrew and Thomas Branson of Gasconade, MO &#x3C;BR&#x3E;match the DNA of Reuben Watts b. 1786 NJ (25/25). His father was Rev. John A. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Watts of Anson, NC and his grandfather was William Watts of Somerset, MD &#x3C;BR&#x3E;(where the Shockleys lived). His Haplotype is unknown, so the match is not 100% &#x3C;BR&#x3E;for sure. Andrew and Thomas also match 25/25 with Lyman Bowers whose &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Haplogroup is the same as theirs. Lyman&#x27;s DNA is very close to Giles Bowers of Isle of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Wight, VA. His grandson, Benjamin Bowers, married Mary Cloud of Orange, NC &#x3C;BR&#x3E;who was a 2nd cousin of Daniel Cloud who married a dau. of Lionel Branson, Sr. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Another of his descendants married into the Mayfield family - related to &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Elisha Seth Mayfield whose prob. dau Myra married John Taylor? Branson of Marion, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;TN. Perhaps Jarrett Branson or one of his relatives in Gasconade, MO was a &#x3C;BR&#x3E;blood relative of the Bowers, and possibly adopted by a Branson???&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sandy&#x3C;BR&#x3E;**************One site keeps you connected to all your email: AOL Mail, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Gmail, and Yahoo Mail. They lived in &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Chatham, NC and were listed there in 1790 and 1800 census. In 1800 Arthur &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Whitehead was listed next to John Whitehead who was listed next to Thomas Holliday.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thomas Holliday was the brother of William Holladay whose daughter, Nelly, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;married Eli Branson, Jr.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Arthur Whitehead was the 2nd gr-grandson of Arthur Whitehead and Katherine &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Ruffin of Isle of Wight, VA. <title>[BRANSON] Branson - Dillard - Love</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BRANSON/2008-12/1229798278</link>
<description>Robert Love, Rev War soldier, married Mary Ann Dillard, the daughter of Col.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thomas Dillard of Pittsylvania County, Va on Sept. 11th, 1782.  If you go to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;individual #128 at the bottom of this chart you will see the lineage go back&#x3C;BR&#x3E;to   William Love who married Judith Gerard in Charles Co, MD. William is&#x3C;BR&#x3E;likely the son or brother of John Love of Charles County who immigrated on&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the same ship imported by the same person who sponsored Thomas Branson in&#x3C;BR&#x3E;1651.  In 1683 John Goldsmith mentioned his son in law Thomas Love.  John&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Goldsmith&#x27;s daughter Judith was given a legacy in a will with Ann Branson,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;wife of Thomas.   Since Thomas and Ann named their firstborn Garrot or&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Gerard,  and the family lived on the land holdings of Thomas Gerrard it&#x27;s&#x3C;BR&#x3E;very possible there if a familial relationship. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;                                                        &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://www.thetintypeshop.com/family/Douglas/Surnames/JtoL/Love/loveahnentaf&#x3C;BR&#x3E;el.htm &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[BRANSON] John Branson, Isle of Wight, VA</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BRANSON/2008-12/1229791655</link>
<description>Another possible link between John Branson who was transported to Isle of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Wight, VA and John Branson who died 1716 in St. Paul&#x27;s Parish, King &#x3C;BR&#x3E;George-Stafford, VA....&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Rebecca Thornton married Nathaniel Henderson, son of Richard Henderson and &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Elizabeth Branson. A Richard Henderson was found in records of St. Paul&#x27;s &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Parish, VA. Rebecca Thornton was daughter of Thomas Thornton and Martha Boykin of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Isle of Wight, VA. Her father, Thomas, was possible nephew of Edward Thornton &#x3C;BR&#x3E;of Isle of Wight who married Katherine Ruffin, daughter? of William Ruffin &#x3C;BR&#x3E;(he gave Katherine Ruffin 200 acres in his will). William Ruffin was in several &#x3C;BR&#x3E;records with John Branson/Brampton in Isle of Wight, VA.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Some of Rebecca Thornton&#x27;s siblings moved to Edgefield, SC where Richard &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Henderson and Elizabeth Branson moved and some of them later lived in Grayson, VA &#x3C;BR&#x3E;near Jarrett Branson. Rebecca Thornton&#x27;s parents were early members of Cane &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Creek MM Quaker meeting in Orange, NC along with Thomas and Rebecca (Borden) &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Branson.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;William Longmire was in records of King George, VA at the same time as &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Francis Thornton was there. William Longmire was the reported 2nd great grandfather &#x3C;BR&#x3E;of Martha Jane Ousley who married John Sevier Branson, desc. of Jarrett. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Francis Thornton was related to Rebecca and Thomas Thornton.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Ruffins were related by marriage to the family of William Boddie who &#x3C;BR&#x3E;transported John Branson to Isle of Wight in 1665.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Some research by others. <title>[BRANSON] Branson, Richardson, Henderson</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BRANSON/2008-12/1229694032</link>
<description>In 1796 Joshua Richardson assigned land at Big Reed Island, VA to Jarrett &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Branson. Jerard Branston was taxed in1793 Grayson, VA (the Wythe) along with &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Joshua Richardson and his relatives. In 1794 Grayson, VA Joshua and Boyd &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Richardson were taxed along with Jan A. Branson.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Boyd Richardson is unidentified but he was likely related to Joshua since &#x3C;BR&#x3E;they were taxed 1 day apart in 1794 Grayson, VA. Boyd Richardson&#x27;s daughter, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Nancy, married Jesse Joab Thornton of Orange/Alamance, NC. Jesse&#x27;s aunt, Rebecca &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thornton of Cane Creek MM, Orange, NC, married Nathaniel Henderson who was &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the son of Richard &#x22;the Quaker&#x22; Henderson and Elizabeth Branson. Jesse&#x27;s son, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;James Thornton, married Jane Parker on Feb 28 1847 in Cass, Michigan.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;In the 1850 census of Calvin, Cass, Mich, James Thornton was listed on page &#x3C;BR&#x3E;284 and William and Rachel East were listed on page 288. William East was the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brother of Susannah East who married Valentine Branson and the probable &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brother of Frances East who married Jarred Branson, Jr. &#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;In the 1800 census of Edgefield, SC Jesse Thornton (father of James) was &#x3C;BR&#x3E;listed on the same page as Garrett Longmire. Garrett Longmire was a cousin of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Phebe Longmire who married Joseph Owsley. Joseph Owsley was the reported &#x3C;BR&#x3E;father-in-law of John Sevier Branson, grandson of Jarrett Branson. In the same &#x3C;BR&#x3E;census (1800 Edgefield, SC) Eli Branson Jr. was listed on the same page with David &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thornton, relative of Jesse.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;This is evidence of a possible relationship between Eli Branson, Elizabeth &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Branson Henderson and Jarrett Branson.&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Some research by others.
