<title>[BROWN-SCOTLAND] Douglas County Kansas Browns</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BROWN-SCOTLAND/2008-10/1225112813</link>
<description>My ggreat grandfather Jacob John Harvey Brown is listed in the 1850-1858 census for Douglas County Kansas.  At one point he list his nativity as Scotland.  But then so did many living close by.  He was born in 1820 and in other census he says he was born in Tennessee.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I cannot find his family.  He was in the 1850 census Jackson County, Missouri, 1860 in Bates County, Missouri and his family lived without him in the 1870 census of Benton County, Arkansas.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;He married Martha Turner in 1840 Crawford County, Missouri but, he is not listed in the census there at that time.  There were many Jacob Browns in Saint Louis at that time but I cannot connect with them.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My mother always said we were from Scotland and Ireland.  But, I always take that with a grain of salt.  However, if there is a Scottish connection I sure would like to know about it.  I would like to find his mother and father.  There are also many Jacob Browns in the early census for Washington County Tennessee but cannot find a connection to them either.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have been looking for ten years.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Betty&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
