<title>Re: [BURT-SOUTHERN-USA] [BURT-SOUTHERN-USA-L] Burt Family members in Texas</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/BURT-SOUTHERN-USA/2008-12/1229793312</link>
<description>Although this was posted a long time ago, and as a descendant of Dr.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Erasmus R. Burt, I was curious about this Erasmus. It&#x27;s not E.R.&#x27;s  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;son, who was born ca. 1859 and then disappears off the records.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The three entries for F.H. Burt are confusing! In the 1870 census, he  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;is in District 48 West Texas, Limestone, Texas, born in Alabama (!)  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;with wife Julia born in Texas with children Martha, Jennie, Hattie  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;and Ras. In 1860, he&#x27;s in Eutaw, Limestone, born in South Carolina  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;(1) with wife Julia, born in Mi with children Martha, Alice and  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Nancy. The 1870  census has &#x22;Frank&#x22; written in after the &#x22;F&#x22;. So it&#x27;s  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Frank H. Burt. ANd, of course, the 1880 census lists his birthplace  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;as Georgia and Julia&#x27;s as Alabama!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Aisha&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; From: Bill Adams &#x3C;badams@tca.net&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Subject: [BURT-SOUTHERN-USA-L] Burt Family members in Texas&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1999 08:49:17 -0500&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; And a good morning to all&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; While doing some research in Texas census records for descendants  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; of Mathew&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Burt through his son Philip, I found two others that may well tie  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; in to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Mathew, but through a different son. But, I need some help.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; First, in Independence, Washington County, TX, in the 1880 Federal  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; census,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; I found Eugene (spelled Eugine in the census) Burt, born SC, as the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; father-in-law of widowed Julius Muse, a dentist. Also living in the  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; same&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; household was Eugene&#x27;s daughter Cassie, unmarried.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; I believe this Eugene Burt to be the son of Harwood and Susannah  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; (Sukey)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Miles Burt. Can anyone help me prove or disprove this belief and  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; also add&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; any other information to the family of Eugene and which daughter  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; may have&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; married Julius Muse?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Incidentally, Independence is only about 30 miles from where I live.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Also, secondly, I found an F. H. Burt, medical doctor, age 49, born  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; in GA,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; living in Kosse, Limestone County, Texas in the 1880 federal  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; census. The&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; name of the wife was Julia (maybe a Julia Johnson). The children were&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; listed as Martha, Jennie, Harriett, Erasmus and Phillip. Elizabeth  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Johnson&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; was also living in the household with the relationship of mother-in- &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; law.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Was this perhaps a son of Dr. Erasmus R. Burt, killed in the Civil War&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; while serving as the commander of the 18th Mississippi Regiment?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; I appreciate any and all leads, help, suggestions, comments, etc.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Thanks&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Bill&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<description>You might want to take a look at www.rootsweb.com and look for the BURT-Southern mail list archives. If you search for William Washington Burt you will find a great deal of discussion of these folks around 1999-2001. The conclusion seemed to be that there were two separate William Washington Burt families. One in Russell/Lee county and one in Coffee county. It sounds like you are connected to the family from Coffee county. They probably connect to the Conecuh county Burts who descend from Richard Burt of York county, VA. The Burts buried in Salem are a different line. That WW Burt was a son of Zacheus Burt and grandson of Joseph and Elizabeth Burt of Halifax county, NC. Joseph was a son of John and Grace Burt of Gloucester Co., VA. You might also want to check out the Burt-southern website.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Here is link to the archives: http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search?aop?list=BURT-SOUTHERN-USA&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Here is link to website: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~burtsou/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John K. By using the results of DNA testing,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;along with other information and family pedigrees, participants can identify&#x3C;BR&#x3E;those with whom they share a common ancestor. While no one can guarantee you a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;match that will lead back up your family tree, more and more people are finding&#x3C;BR&#x3E;a match as the database expands.&#xC2;&#xA0; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Please take a look at this&#x3C;BR&#x3E;web pagehttp://www.worldfamilies.net/order.html,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;which explains the cost of tests, both when ordered through a project and when&#x3C;BR&#x3E;ordered individually.&#xC2;&#xA0; As you can see, it is to your advantage to order&#x3C;BR&#x3E;through a project, because the cost is lower, and because you will learn more&#x3C;BR&#x3E;by working with other researchers of this surname.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;We encourage everyone who&#x3C;BR&#x3E;tests to also post their pedigree, so that participants can compare pedigrees&#x3C;BR&#x3E;as well as test results.&#xC2;&#xA0; I encourage you to post your family pedigree, even if&#x3C;BR&#x3E;you don&#x27;t have very much information, while you are checking out the Pedigree&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Forum.&#xC2;&#xA0; Some interested researcher may see it and contact you.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Here are some web pages with&#x3C;BR&#x3E;some good information for you:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Burt Project 6 Page&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Website:&#xC2;&#xA0; http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/b/burt/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Pedigree Forum:&#xC2;&#xA0; http://www.wfnforum.net/index.php?topic=6827.0&#xC2;&#xA0;&#xC2;&#xA0;&#xC2;&#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;[Please follow our directions at the forum: http://www.wfnforum.net/index.php?topic=2976.0&#x3C;BR&#x3E;]&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;To order a test now, click&#x3C;BR&#x3E;this link: http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=burt&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Our home page, with lots of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;DNA and project information: http://worldfamilies.net/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Answers to many of your questions: http://www.worldfamilies.net/faqs.html&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Information about us and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;about what we do: http://www.worldfamilies.net/newtosite.html&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Once you have looked over&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the sites, you may have specific questions, which I&#x27;ll be glad to answer.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Best Regards,&#xC2;&#xA0;Marilyn&#xC2;&#xA0; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;World&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Families Network&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xA0;www.worldfamilies.net&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-----Original&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Message-----&#x3C;BR&#x3E;From: Brown, John&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sent: Tuesday, August 07, 2007&#x3C;BR&#x3E;2:01 PM&#x3C;BR&#x3E;To: terry@worldfamilies.net&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Subject: Burt DNA Project&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Hi,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#xC2;&#xA0;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I am not a Burt myself, but my mother was. <description>Hi, John, I have caused confusion saying that my husband descends from &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Archibald Burt - but rather Asa Burt. Susan Burt married Wade Holt, son of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Archibald Holt in Winston Co. Her is the line below. Burta Holt Henry was &#x3C;BR&#x3E;my mother-in-law. <description>Hi,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I have updated my family tree website adding lots of photos and new information. I have ancestors in Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Tuscaloosa and Talledega counties in Alabama; and Bladen and Robeson counties in North Carolina. My major family lines are shown in the subject line.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;FYI I use the Master Genealogist 6.0 as my genealogy database and Second Site 2.0 to create the website. There are links at the bottom of the home page if you are interested in either program. I have no connection to either company, just a satisfied customer.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The website address is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~opus/index.htm&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Let me know if you find a connection.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John K. <description>I&#x27;m just curious, I&#x27;ve seen a lot of DNA discussion on other surnames, but nothing on the Burts. It would seem that the southern Burts are the prefect DNA project. Wouldn&#x27;t it be great to have someone from the Richard Burt the Elder line and someone from the John and Grace Burtt line compare DNA to see once and for all if the two lines are connected. I&#x27;m not a Burt so I can&#x27;t do it, but I hope that some of you will. If you are interested just Google Burt DNA Project.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The list has been rather dead lately folks. We need to get to talking again!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;John K.
