<description>Vikki, in the National Archives' database of Western Land Grants, I find&#x3C;BR&#x3E;that Eugene Burdette Conrad took up the NW Part of Section 2, Township 32,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Range 23, West of the 4th Meridien.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The information is also available through the Alberta Archives (Film #&#x3C;BR&#x3E;2964 in Accession # 1970.313 at Provincial Archives of Alberta&#x3C;BR&#x3E;File # 2260070)&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;You can obtain a copy for a very reasonable fee here:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://abgensoc.ca/homestead/index.htm#order&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;This should give you additional information about where he came from and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;when he actually settled.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;This location puts him only two ranges north of my husband's grandfather,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;William Alexander Wilson who settled on Section 13, Township 32, Range 21,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;W4.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There's a great map of the township/ranges here:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://www.rootsweb.com/~canmaps/cnr/AlbertaCNR.html&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Looking for info on great grandparents:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3E; Eugene B. <description>Dear Listers:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Rootsweb is changing to new list management software!&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/migrate_sched.html This list is scheduled to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;move today.   &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Any differences you notice should be minor:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The &#x22;-L&#x22; is being dropped from the official list name, but you will be able&#x3C;BR&#x3E;to both sub and post using the &#x22;old&#x22; name,with the -L, or the new one&#x3C;BR&#x3E;without it.  If you use email headers to filter list mail in your email&#x3C;BR&#x3E;program, your filters may need adjusting. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Digest subscribers will notice a small difference in the layout, volume and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;issue numbers of the list digests. New instructions will be added to the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;digests -- please read them.  If your digests arrive in a different format&#x3C;BR&#x3E;than you are used to and you would like it changed, contact me.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If you are subscribed to the list in both L and D modes using the same email&#x3C;BR&#x3E;address, you will find that you will no longer be subbed to the Digest after&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the move. The new software doesn't permit the same address to be subbed in&#x3C;BR&#x3E;both L and D modes.   If you want to continue to be subbed to both the list&#x3C;BR&#x3E;posts and the digest, you will need to use two different email addresses.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;If you run into anything unusual or confusing with mail from this list that&#x3C;BR&#x3E;could be related to the changeover, let me know.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Bye for now.......Murray&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Murray Pletsch &#x3C;pletsch@cogeco.ca *OR* gravemarkers@hotmail.com&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>British Home Children Society</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CAN-AB-DRUMHELLER/2006-07/1152113419</link>
<description>British Home Children Society&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Could one of your ancestors have been a British Home Child?  100,000&#x3C;BR&#x3E;children aged 5-15 were sent to Canada to work as indentured farm labourers&#x3C;BR&#x3E;and domestic servants as part of the British Child Emigration Scheme to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Canada (1870-1957).  Their familial ties were broken once 'in care' and sent&#x3C;BR&#x3E;to Canada.  Many British Home Children spent their lives trying to find&#x3C;BR&#x3E;their parents and siblings.  Many of their descendants have inherited their&#x3C;BR&#x3E;ancestors' lifelong search for their identities.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Their are an estimated 5 million descendants of the British Home Children in&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Canada, and another estimated 1 million in the USA - an unknown number of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;children ran away from their farm placements to the USA, married, and had&#x3C;BR&#x3E;children.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Over 50 childcare organizations (ie Barnardo, Rye, Waifs &#x26; Strays) professed&#x3C;BR&#x3E;a motive of providing these orphaned, impoverished, unwanted children with&#x3C;BR&#x3E;better lives than what they might have had in England.  But, many of these&#x3C;BR&#x3E;children suffered from child neglect and abuse, and were often treated only&#x3C;BR&#x3E;as unpaid indentured farm labourers and domestic servants.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The primary goal of the British Home Children Society is to create a&#x3C;BR&#x3E;comprehensive database of individual British Home Children records called&#x3C;BR&#x3E;the British Home Children Registry. This Registry will collect information&#x3C;BR&#x3E;about each individual British Home Child to create an ongoing legacy that&#x3C;BR&#x3E;will preserve their identities in perpetuity. The Registry currently has&#x3C;BR&#x3E;+50,000 individual records, and an abbreviated online version can be&#x3C;BR&#x3E;searched on The British Home Children Website&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The British Home Children Society was formed to assist the millions of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Canadian, American, British, and Australian descendants of the British Home&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Children with re-establishing their familial ties.  The sending agencies&#x3C;BR&#x3E;have been traditionally reluctant to release records to descendants.  The&#x3C;BR&#x3E;British Home Children Society is committed to building an international&#x3C;BR&#x3E;community of Canadian, American, British, and Australian descendants to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;assist each other with their searches.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Best Wishes&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Perry Snow BA MA (Hons) Psychologist&#x3C;BR&#x3E;President: British Home Children Society&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://members.shaw.ca/persnow/&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Listowner:  British Home Children Mail List&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://members.shaw.ca/persnow/faq_maillist.htm&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Webmaster: The British Home Children&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren/ &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-- &#x3C;BR&#x3E;----------------------------------------&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;It has removed 84 spam emails to date.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Paying users do not have this message in their emails.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Get the free SPAMfighter here: http://www.spamfighter.com/len&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
