<description>Hi,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;      I have heard of the story of Scota, daughter of Pharoah, but more associated with the Stone of Destiny (Jacobs Pillow) than the founding of the house of Douglas. I personally prefer the story of Sholto Dhuglas, told by Hume of Godscroft in his history of the Douglas's&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;      And the King asked where is the man who had given such timely help, and received the reply, &#x22;Sholto dhuglas&#x22;  or &#x22;there the dark man&#x22; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Sholto Dhu Glas 770&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Aoidh (Hugh) Dhu Glas c ?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Aoidh Dhu Glas of Caledonia ?&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Gilmour Dhu Glas, who fought Charlemagne in Gaul c 810&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Eachunn (Hector) Dhu Glas, c 1844&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     not known&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Gillesburg Dhu Glas c 944&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     not known&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     Freskin de Strabroch Dhu Glas c 1135&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     William Douglas (created Lord Douglas by Norman rule, the first&#x3C;BR&#x3E;     use of ther modern spelling) c 1161&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Source;Wikipedia&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Jamais arri&#xE8;re&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;  billy&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[CLAN-DOUGLAS] Pharaoh, King of Egypt</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CLAN-DOUGLAS/2008-07/1216487558</link>
<description>An early biographer of the Douglas family, writing in the middle of the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;eighteenth century, traces their pedigree as far back as the days of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Pharaoh, King of Egypt, the father of that monarch who pursued Moses with&#x3C;BR&#x3E;such malignant fidelity. According to this historian, a certain Gathaleus&#x3C;BR&#x3E;was the general of Pharaoh's troops, who, with the assistance of his&#x3C;BR&#x3E;lieutenant Sayas, succeeded in defeating the ever-hostile forces of the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Ethiopians. As a reward for this victory he was given the hand of Pharaoh's&#x3C;BR&#x3E;daughter Scota. Gathaleus and his bride journeyed to Portugal, where they&#x3C;BR&#x3E;were joined by the faithful Sayas, and the descendants of these two families&#x3C;BR&#x3E;eventually came to Scotland and founded the house of Douglas. [The History&#x3C;BR&#x3E;and Martial Achievements of the Houses of Douglas, Angus, and Queensberry,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;p. v. (Edinburgh, 1769.)]&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Anyone traced it back this far yet?  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
