Colin,
Received this email but am a bit confused. My name is Jessie
Meaklim but I am trying to trace Jane Forsyth, believed to be related
to RW Forsyth of Glasgow and Edinburgh. I can give you some info
on RWF's family but am a bit incapacitated at the moment as I have
just had a cataract removed from my eye a few days ago and not
seeing too well. Will be happy to hear from you in 2 or 3 weeks.
I have been on this quest for a while. Said Jane Forsyth is my
Grandmother.
Regards,
Jessie Meaklim

Date sent: Thu, 8 May 2008 16:41:29 -0400 (EDT)
From: Jessie Forsyth <jessiefoureyes1@yahoo.ca>
To: clan-forsyth@rootsweb.com
Subject: Re: [CLAN-FORSYTH] Forsyth in Eddlestone
and Edinburgh
Send reply to: clan-forsyth@rootsweb.com

> Dear Colin,
> My ancestor was James Forsyth who married Helen Scott in Yarrow, Selkirk
> in Jan, 1801.
I am new to this list and it is with some trepidation that I approach the members.
I am hoping to get some information about
William FORSYTH, my husbands GrGr Grandfather.
We believe that his father came from Elgin but we don't know, where William was born neither the names of his parents.
We know that he married Mary Wallace, who was born in India about 1800.
William himself died in Dublin in 1888, 90 years of age, which gives me a lead to the year he was born!

I know a lot about his life in Ireland thanks to the Librarian at the Public Works in Dublin.
>From about 1845 he was appointed Assistant Engineer to the board being involved in Drainage Works and Bridgebuilding and he retired in 1874 as Chief Engineer.
But where he was born and where he spent his early life and gathered all the experience and knowledge as a Civil Engineer, we do not know.
I have found a marriage on the IGI between a William Forsyth and Mary Wallace Inverness 26th December 1818.
I have had the Microfilm of the Church register on loan but all it says is:

Forsyth William Forsyth Mason and Mary Wallace

( No date of birth, names or occupations of their parents )

I know this is like looking for the needle in the haystack but having spent about 4 years researching dear William, I feel that I have to try and take this one step further.

Kind regards

Inga Jackson
Wellington, New Zealand

FORSYTH(E) / PATTERSON / MCKINLEY / THOMPSON

Does anyone have my FORSYTH ancestor in their family tree? My Forsyths originally came from Scotland, and DNA places quite a bit of Scottish blood in my veins, though the most 'ancient' ancestor I'm aware of lived in Ireland. Exactly when the family left Scotland for Ireland is unknown.
Here's what I know of my line:
George FORSYTH was born circa 1762 in Ballymageogh, Mourne Parish, County Down. Around 1787 he married a Mary PATTERSON who was born circa 1766. One of their children was John FORSYTHE, Sr. His birth took place in September of 1788
in the same locale as his father.
On 9 May 1813 in County Down John married Elizabeth McKINLEY. She too was from County Down, having been born there in March or May of 1790 to William and Jane THOMPSON McKINLEY.
John and Elizabeth sold their 6 acres and set sail for Allegheny Co., PA in 1843 with their 10 children aboard the ship "Georgianna". The family eventually settled in Wapello County, Iowa, where John died in Nov. of 1853, and Elizabeth in the spring of 1873.
One of their many children was John, Jr. who is my direct ancestor. He was born 31 May 1820 in Ireland, married Ellen PERRY (the possible daughter of James & Mary Perry) in autumn of 1849 in Allegheny County, PA, and he died 7 Dec. 1858 in Wapello Co., Iowa. The date Ellen left this world is unknown.
My line of descent is:
George Forsyth, John Forsythe, Sr., John Forsyth, Jr., James E. (Ellsworth) Forsyth , Leland Roy Forsythe, Audrey Forsythe Birk, Karen Birk Weatherford
Thank you everyone for your time!
Sincerely,
Karen in South Carolina, USA

Boyd, FSA Scot
President
Scottish Information Society
http://www.scottishinfo.org

delegate representative: House of Boyd Society, Inc. I add this bit of information due to the responses I received
in my first round of posting:

This message is not misdirected, but rather has been sent to
all the clan lists at Rootsweb in attempt to most expediently
reach those involved with and representing their Scottish clan
in some official capacity. You have received it as you are
subscribed to at least one of them.

Please understand that due to the shear magnitude of the number
of recipients, I cannot respond to friendly notes that include
genealogical information and queries that may be triggered by
my post. Please do post to the list and also consider joining
and becoming active in your Scottish clan's organization.
