<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CLAN-HAY/2007-07/1184227679</link>
<description> She was one of my great-grandmothers, the mother of my mother's father &#x3C;BR&#x3E;George Carpenter (born Bromham 1866, died Bristol 1945) and I have never &#x3C;BR&#x3E;even heard her spoken of. She married my great-grandfather James Carpenter, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;stonemason, born 1820 or 21 and was herself born (in that area? or where?) &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1825 . She was the daughter of John Hay, and I know nothing of her except &#x3C;BR&#x3E;that she was the daughter of John Hay. But 'Hay', I find, is a name almost &#x3C;BR&#x3E;unknown outside Scotland  -- I wonder how she came to be there? D&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[CLAN-HAY] The Gathering 2009 -HUGE clan gathering, Edinburgh, Scotland</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CLAN-HAY/2007-07/1183732592</link>
<description>A friend of mine Lord Jamie Sempill sent the following letter out recently, I thought you might want to know about it:&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;A celebration of the contribution made by the clans &#x3C;BR&#x3E;to the culture and history of Scotland.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Scottish Executive has chosen 2009 as the Year of the Homecoming. This initiative is directed worldwide at all those with an affinity to Scotland. There can be no greater affinity than that of the clan member, and a major International Clan Gathering is being planned to support this exciting initiative.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Gathering will take the form of a major Highland Games, but with the addition of a special clan ceremony, designed by the producers of the Edinburgh Tattoo. This will be held on the magnificent castle esplanade and will commemorate the contribution made by the clans to the culture and history of Scotland. The Gathering is being hosted by the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, and it is hoped that all clan associations will attend.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Gathering 2009 Ltd has opened offices in Edinburgh, and is in the early stages of planning and designing the event. Please visit http://www.thegathering2009.com&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;As the first recipients of this news, please communicate it to as many of your clan members as possible. We will be working closely clan organisations worldwide, and will be attending major Games and festivals throughout 2007 and 2008 to help promote the Gathering. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
