[CLAYTON-MS] Warren G. Clayton

Hi list. I lost my file due to a fire. So this is starting over, from memory mostly. My great greatgrandmother was Lurah A. Clayton and was bMar 1866 in Ms. Her parents were Warren G. and Malinda(Anderson) Clayton. They were found on the 1880 census ofLee Co.Ms at Tupelo. Waren was b9 Jan 1842 in Ala, both of his parents were b in SC. Warren and Malinda had the following children;Lenora/ Lurah, Emma J, Julie N. and Allie. On this census also living with them was Warrens sister Cynthia. They left Tupelo after this as we next find them in Sebastian Co,Ar. They are buried at the New Providence Cemetery there right on the Ar- Ok state line. Lurah married as his 3rd wife William L. Hamilton about 1886 there in Lee Co,Ms This couple came to IndianTerritory in early 1887. The dau Emma J Clayton b. 14 Nov,1867 died 18 July,1901 and was married to Jim Davis. Allie b ca 1872 married W. Tomas Walling
The marriage record of Waren(sp) Clayton and Malinda Anderson is recorded in Itawamba Co,Ms Warren Clayton died here in 1884 Malinda died in Feb,1891
The sister of Warren Clayton Cynthis Clayton Bergis was living in Leflore Co,Ok with her niece Lurah Hamilton on the 1920 census. I have some pictures of their stones and other info on desc but would really like to find parents for this Warren Clayton. Often we find his name spelled Waren. I hope this will help others wondering where their Claytons went to. Thank you Helen Marvel

The librarian says it could be two years before the downtown Biloxi library

Source: Biloxi Library

Cleaning Up Storm Mess

copied

09/29/05
Biloxi Library Cleaning Up Storm Mess

http://www.wlox.com/Global/story.asp?S=3916965&nav=6DJI

Hurricane Katrina's visit to the downtown Biloxi library has all the elements
of a nightmare novel. But even though the storm made a mess of the library,
that isn't the end of the story. Some determined people are intent on writing a
happy ending.

A walk through the library... is an obstacle course.

"I can assure you that many of these things were not in the library before
the storm," said librarian Jamie Ellis, as she stepped over storm driven
debris.

A storm surge stew of sea grass, water logged books and assorted
who-knows-what-else now covers the floor.

"I couldn't believe it. I thought to myself. We never thought that it would
get this high. We just didn't think that it would happen," said Ellis.

Katrina thought otherwise. Her true story left behind a smelly, unsightly,
unpleasant mess.

"There's a window out here and a window out over here. And basically the
water came in. We don't see much wind damage in here. Things that were on the
shelf above the water line are still there. So, it seems it was mostly a water
event," Ellis explained.

Dry and undisturbed above the water mark, a pre-storm newspaper warns
Katrina is coming.

"We had all the census micro film here. And lots of things. People just
depended on all this," said librarian's assistant, Jane Shambra.

She mourns a loss of local history. The hurricane claimed a portion of the
history and genealogy section.

"It's terrible. It's become a part of our life. All this history and
genealogy stuff. And it's kind of like a part of us is just washed away," said
Shambra.

The storm destroyed 25 thousand of the library's 47 thousand books. Those th
at can be salvaged will need special treatment.

All the Biloxi books which can be saved will get a refrigerated truck ride
to Chicago. That's where a company that specializes in document restoration
will use some high tech methods to restore these volumes.

The recovery process involves blast freezing the books and exposing them to
gamma rays.

Full recovery isn't a short story; it's more like a lengthy novel. But those
who love the library are anxious to write the final chapter.

"You just have to keep a positive outlook in times like these. Things have
to get better. They must get better," said Jamie Ellis.

The librarian says it could be two years before the downtown Biloxi library
re-opens.

By Steve Phillips

They forged our email addresses by the gazillions.
We can guarantee users that the email did NOT come from our list servers.

The unfortunate consequence of this is that a number of ISPs, among them SureWest and Waitrose, have blacklisted
RootsWeb email addresses. Whether it has been a temporary blacklist as a purely short-term defensive measure or whether
an ISP really thinks we were responsible we cannot know. If you are not getting your mailing list email from RootsWeb,
we ask that you please check your spam folders, or check with your ISP to see whether they have RootsWeb blacklisted.
