[COELPASO] HIMES Family Photograph

I've "rescued" an old photograph of Harry HIMES which was taken at the Rimer
Studio in Schuyler, Nebraska. The photograph appears to have been taken in
the 1880's with Harry likely in his teens or 20's at the time it was taken.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the family in census records
as follows:

1870 census of Pioneer, ID:

Joshua V. HIMES, age 37, a Ditch Owner, born MA
Margaret HIMES, age 24, born IL
Walter HIMES, age 6, born OR
Norman V. HIMES, age 5, born ID Terr
Harry L.
You can request an obituary index search from www.ppld.org, Special
Collections. There's a card index there, and if they find an obit, they will
scan it and e-mail it to you.

There are two Charles Howards buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado
Springs, but both have a different middle initial. There is a C. H. Howard
buried in Fairview Cemetery, Colorado Springs:

005 025 SW HOWARD, C. H.
Born: Died: Buried: 4 JUN
1910
Comments: No marker, information from sexton records

There's a Cordelia Howard in the same block:

C 005 025 WC HOWARD, Cordelia
Born: Died: Buried: 1 JUL
1935
Comments: No marker, information from sexton records

The 1910 census shows that Charles H. Howard is married to Cordelia, so
perhaps this is your guy.

Charles *may* be in the Colorado Springs Death Register, although he
probably died in Colorado City, then not part of Colorado Springs. His obit
may be in the Colorado City Iris, too, BTW, not the Colorado Springs
Gazette, although indexes to both should be checked.

If the library doesn't have time to check this for you, let me know, and
I'll do it the next time I'm at the library.

Linda Vixie

_________________________
Alternate address: lindavixie@gmail.com

-----Original Message-----
From: coelpaso-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:coelpaso-bounces@rootsweb.com]
On Behalf Of mary kahkola
Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 12:45 PM
To: coelpaso@rootsweb.com
Subject: [COELPASO] Charles H.
Usually people who are listed in the CS city directories as having died in
the previous year appear in the Colorado Springs Death Register. It's on
microfilm in Special Collections at the public library. I was just at the
library and won't be back for a few days. Maybe someone else would be
willing to look it up for you.

People in the death register either died in Colorado Springs and were
shipped elsewhere for burial or were buried in Evergreen Cemetery. They
could have died elsewhere and were shipped in for burial in Evergreen, the
large city-owned cemetery.

I don't see him in the index to El Paso County cemeteries.

The newspaper index should be checked too for a death notice or obituary.

Linda Vixie

_________________________
Alternate address: lindavixie@gmail.com

-----Original Message-----
From: coelpaso-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:coelpaso-bounces@rootsweb.com]
On Behalf Of KS&K
Sent: Tuesday, April 01, 2008 3:07 PM
To: COELPASO@rootsweb.com
Subject: [COELPASO] Looking for Reason N Dicks

I just found a listings of a death in the Colorado Springs Directory
1906-1906 It listed a death for Reason N Dicks who died May 6, 1904.
