<title>[SCOTT] SCOTT, Samuel b.1807 Hickman County, Tennessee</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/SCOTT/2009-01/1231458514</link>
<description>Hi all,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I have been on a multi-year quest to find any information about my g-g grandfather James L Scott, b. 1830 in Tennessee.  I recently came into some information that might possibly lead to his parents.  I&#x27;m looking for any information about the following Scott.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Samuel Scott b. about 1807 in Hickman County, Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;m. Mevena? Unknown b. abt 1810 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Children are as follows;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; James SCOTT b: 1830 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Mary SCOTT b: 1833 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Pleasant M SCOTT b: 1834 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Eliza SCOTT b: 1840 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Frances SCOTT b: 1841 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Fredona SCOTT b: 1846 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E; John SCOTT b: 1849 in Tennessee&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There is a possibility that Samuel and Mevena had 8th child named Solomon D Scott born in Illinois 1854/55.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There is a possibility that the son James Scott listed here may be my g-g grandfather.  Does anyone have this family in their line, or know any information about this family.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Thanks for your time,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Brian Scott Standerfer&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;      &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[SCOTT] JOHNSTON &#x26; SCOTT Connection in Ireland???</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/SCOTT/2009-01/1231267185</link>
<description> My Johnston and Anderson families appear to have been close to each other both in Canada from ca. 1832 and in Ireland although we&#x27;ve yet to find either family in Ireland.  My father said that he&#x27;d heard the old people talk about Ballymena while some of his cousins mentioned at least 4 other locations - all widely separated...a real genealogy nightmare :-0&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;I spent some time the other day reading the cemetery notes on Westminster Cemetery in Prescott Co., Ontario, Canada, as published by the Ottawa Branch of the OGS.  There are some interesting clues.  My Johnston family in Canada farmed near to an Anderson family.  My grandmother being an Anderson from that line.  Her brother Clark Anderson is buried in Westminster Cemetery as is my great, great grandfather, Robert &#x22;Red Robin&#x22; Johnston and a few others of our family.  &#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;In the same cemetery is Matthew ELDER, b. ca. 1783 in Ireland, &#x22;a minister and a relative of Clark ANDERSON&#x22; (my grandmother&#x27;s brother).  Does anyone know of Matthew Elder, which church he was a minister in and perhaps how he is connected to our Anderson family?  As my Andersons were Presbyterian Matthew Elder may have been a Presbyterian minister.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There is also another minister buried in the same cemetery:  Thomas SCOTT, d. 1881.  He was born in Ballylessan in the parish of Ballymena, Ireland, and ordained June 1844 by the Presbytery of Hamilton.  Perhaps all of these people were from the parish of Ballymena?  Dunno.  If anyone has any information on Thomas Scott I would appreciate knowing about him and his family.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;My Irish Anderson connection is Benjamin Anderson, b.1785 Ireland.  He married Mary Wylie, b. 1798 in Ireland.  We don&#x27;t know where in Ireland, but our Anderson and Johnston families apparently knew each other in Ireland, possibly came to Upper Canada together ca. 1832 and bought farms close to each other in N. Plantagenet Twp., Prescott Co..&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Any information/assistance would be appreciated very much.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Good hunting,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Cliff. Johnston&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;May the best you&#x27;ve ever seen,&#x3C;BR&#x3E; Be the worst you&#x27;ll ever see;&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;from A Scots Toast by Allan Ramsay&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

<title>[SCOTT] COPY OLD RECORDS</title>
<link>http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/SCOTT/2009-01/1231126064</link>
<description>In the 1930s during the depression, the government gave money to the states&#x3C;BR&#x3E;to copy old records.   That has preserved history, helped students, authors,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;genealogist and many others with research.    There are court records in the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;County Court Clerk&#x27;s Office of each county, of each state, that give the&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Partitions for Sale which names all members of families and lots more&#x3C;BR&#x3E;information.     Many of us buy rolls of this microfilm and the states will&#x3C;BR&#x3E;receive dividends of this for years.    The 1930s material is being sold and&#x3C;BR&#x3E;used today.  This is a win-win situation for everyone and returns money to&#x3C;BR&#x3E;government.   It will pay it&#x27;s own way and can begin immediately.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Please apply and let the President&#x27;s Stimulus Package do this.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E; I recently found a paper record (Partition for Sale) of 1832 in Kershaw&#x3C;BR&#x3E;County, S. C. that I had looked thirty years for.    I saw lots of records&#x3C;BR&#x3E;that named families.   Please email the first paragraph of this email to any&#x3C;BR&#x3E;government official, historical society, genealogy society you can think of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;plus the genealogy friends in your address book so they can send it on.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;There are lots of good records out there that are crumbling and need to be&#x3C;BR&#x3E;preserved.   I found some that were in 1790 naming children and division of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;property.   They must not crumble more.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Lavonne Sanders Walker, 19603 13th Street, Shawnee, Ok. 74801&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Email:lavonnew@flash.net&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x22;Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of&#x3C;BR&#x3E;battle&#x22;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;

Initially named &#x3C;BR&#x3E;the Decatur Female Seminary in 1889 and renamed the Agnes Scott &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Institute in 1890, the College was again renamed as Agnes Scott College &#x3C;BR&#x3E;in 1906. The College celebrates its founding date on the date of Col. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Scott&#x92;s birthday.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;In 1854, Scott moved from his native Pennsylvania to Leon County, &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Florida, and at the onset of the Civil War, served in the Confederate &#x3C;BR&#x3E;cavalry. In 1863, James Alexander Seddon, Secretary of the War of the &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Confederacy, directed George Washington Scott to organize the fifth &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Florida Battalion, known as &#x93;Scott&#x92;s Cavalry,&#x94; with the rank of Lt. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Colonel. Earned distinction for his valor in the Confederate victory at &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Natural Bridge. After the War, in 1867, Col. Scott was the Democratic &#x3C;BR&#x3E;nominee for governor of Florida and was elected, according to his &#x3C;BR&#x3E;obituary in The Atlanta Constitution, &#x93;but the military authorities were &#x3C;BR&#x3E;not in favor of permitting a Southern soldier and sympathizer holding a &#x3C;BR&#x3E;political office, and he was counted out ...&#x94; Harrison Reed, founder of &#x3C;BR&#x3E;The Milwaukee Sentinel, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was selected instead. &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Sometime thereafter, Scott left Florida for Savannah and settled &#x3C;BR&#x3E;eventually in Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia, about 1878. Col. Scott &#x3C;BR&#x3E;was a son of Pennsylvania Republican Congressman John Scott; his &#x3C;BR&#x3E;brother, John Scott, Jr. was a United States Senator from Pennsylvania.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Location of full item is here&#x3C;BR&#x3E;http://home.mindspring.com/~joseph.fleming/Bios1870-1890.doc&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Ian&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;-- &#x3C;BR&#x3E;Ian &#x26; Daphne Scott&#x3C;BR&#x3E;51 Ambrose St.&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Charlottetown,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Prince Edward Island,&#x3C;BR&#x3E;Canada, C1A 3P5&#x3C;BR&#x3E;(902) 892-5796&#x3C;BR&#x3E;scotts@pei.sympatico.ca&#x3C;BR&#x3E;&#x3C;BR&#x3E;
