You might get more information from Crimea and Indian mutiny sites. My GG Grandfather Pte Robert Davidson was also in the 79th at the same time as John Clark. I have been researching him and found some good info. In the 1861 census, he is with his mother and listed as 25 years, unmarried, an apprentice bricklayer and having been born in Glasgow, Lanarkshire. I guess that means he left the regiment sometime between 1856-1861? Any suggestions to find out more information about his army record? The British occupied Manila for 2 years before ceding the city to Spain at the end of the 7 years war. I am descended from a Grey who must have sired a son because the Grey name has endured in the Philippines up to present. The earliest name we can trace Manuel Grey (b.1790) must have been a grandson of the original Grey. Any help I can get would be most appreciated. My great uncle AMOS FREDERICK DAVIS died in Rawal Pindi on Jan. 27, 1899, private 4337 of Enteric Fever aged 23. He was born in Kent England. He was in the 1st Battallion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers. Can anyone please tell me how I can find where he enlisted and if he could have entry papers to the army how I could get them. Or perhaps there is another list I should join that I don't know about.
