Judy,
Robert Harreld had a son named John.. Robert Harreld was one of two sons of
James Harreld of Washington co. Va.. James died in Wash. co. in 1796 and
willed his land to Robert, James and daughter, Mary Marshall.. Robert and
Mary Marshall moved to Warren co. Ky and son, James, died about 1800.. When
James II died, his part of the farm went his son James who sold it to my
ggggrandfather, Basil Warren, in 1816..
I have seen some information on the internet which purports that Robert was
born in Nansemond co. VA.. but I don't think it is reliable because DNA from
a proven descendant of Robert does not match any of the lines in Nansemond
co. or Eastern NC, infact, that DNA sample matches my DNA.. The DNA group is
Line Five on the Harrell Website DNA Charts.
I am sure Robert was not the son of a William Harrell. Robert is named in
the Will of James, his father and is well documented in Washington co. Va..
He was born 1760 or before because he was in the Battle of Point Pleasant in
1774... GLH
>>
would love to see some information on my line. I received this
information back in the 1980's and have never tried to confirm it. I have
an Eliza J. Herreld that married Thomas M. James in Butler Co., KY in 1841.
She was the daughter of John D. and Nancy (Davis). John D. is supposed to
be the son of Robert and Margaret (Edmiston). Robert (b. 1761) is
supposedly the son of William Harreld of Nansemond Co., VA.
Do the folks sound familiar to anyone?
Judy Penrod Purcell
Cedar Hill, TX
>>

Such as the Family History Library catalog. The
> original indexing was done by FHLibrary people years ago, and released,
> for some
> reason [possibly monetary] to Ancestry.com.
>
> Second, misspell the name. Have you tried Hawkins? One smart cookie
> told
> me to try this--type in the first three letter of the surname and then
> add an
> asterisk [wild card]. I suggest you change the vowel--change the a to
> other
> vowels!!!
>
> This is what I did with a common name in the UK census--the common name
> being Holmes. Of course, the British censuses in many ways are more
> detailed
> than some of ours. I typed in only the surname Holmes, and then the
> birthplace.
> Bingo!!! I found them--the missing brothers of my ancestress--in the
> suburbs of London.
>
> Some of the persons who compiled the indexes to the censuses had these
> problems:
>
> 1) Some of them were not conversant with the English surnames.
>
> I think some of Ancestry.com's census indexes, but probably not the 1880,
> was outsourced, but, if I remember the 1880 was compiled by volunteers
> associated with the Family History Library, and were first released on
> CD=ROMs. I
> have mine around here somewhere--gathering dust!! The FHL generally has
> someone check such things as the 1880 census index. I suspect the
> census-taker
> may have entered a misspelled name. Furthermore, your ancestors may not
> be in
> the PLACE where you think they should be.
>
> 2) As most of us have experienced, the indexers could not read the old
> handwriting. I have been squinting at a Kentucky deed, as taken from FHL
> microfilm, and I am having a terrible time making out every word.
>
> 3) Then there are just omissions, commisions of misspelling, etc.
>
> E.W.Wallace
> been there--done that, and am bound to continue with brick walls from time
> to time!!!
>
>
>
> **************Looking for a car that's sporty, fun and fits in your
> budget?
> Read reviews on AOL Autos.
> )
>
> -------------------------------
> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to
> VA-SOUTHSIDE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the
> quotes in the subject and the body of the message
>

[VA-SOUTHSIDE] Hankins Family Keysville

Hello,
Can someone give me some help as to where to look or whom to ask:

I'm trying to find out what happened to the Lafayette Alexander & Sarah
Hankins family and the Theophilus & Margaret Hankins family in 1880. They
are present in the 1870 census in the farms around Keysville, their farms
near their father's (William "Buck" Hankins & his wife Susan). But they are
nowhere to be found in 1880. The daughter of LA Hankins (Ella) is living
wth her maternal grandparents, Jonathan & Sarah Flippin.

Lafayette Alexander and his family end up in Fayette County, PA by the 1900
census. But between 1870 and 1900, I can't find them.

My theory is this: William "Buck" Hankins died in 1973. His wife Susan
died in 1878. I'm wondering if at their deaths a number of the adult
children sold their farms and left Charlotte County. If that's true, there
should be deed records of sale in Charlotte County. Also, I'm wondering if
a will exists for William and Susan.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Barbara Vogele Obaker
Gibsonia, Allegheny County, PA
Researching:
PA:
Vogele-Frye-Berkey-Seger-Claycomb-Buell-Penrod-Shaffer-Oats-Bittner-Bishop-Dibert-Berkebile-Zimmerman-Ripple-Clark-Whipkey-Obaker-Coughenour-Bennett-Lang-Beatty-Woodward-Klites-Bruck-Work
MD: Obaker-Goodwin-Knapp-Stegemuller
VA: Hankins-Flippin-DeJarnette-Staples-Sudberry-Rudd-Mumford

I am trying to find where and when James Green Morris and Sarah Henry Davis were married. Both were living in Greensville County Virginia. They were married about 1850. Does anyone know where the marriage took place? I am hoping to learn of their parents. Thanks Bob Morris
