Dorothy:
Have you looked at our websites? It may answer many of your questions. I
am working on a timeline for when and where they went during the war, but it
is something that I can't devote as much time as I would like. This unit
can be troubling when researching because it was very seldom if ever at the
same place at the same time. In other words, the companies were farmed out
to other units or sent to separate places for coastal defense. It was also
known by several different names and numbers. To make it even more
confusing - parts of it were farmed out to Speight's Brigade. To add even
more stumbling blocks, much of the Dept. of Trans Mississippi records were
destroyed or scattered at the end of the war. The W T Block websites are
really good. You can start at

I looked at the muster roll that is on the web and saw that he was in Co.
A - http://www.angelfire.com/tx/RandysTexas/spaightsmust.html
I am trying to make a webpage for each member of the Battalion and would
love to get all the information you have on James. I would really love to
get a picture of him if you have one. Many times people come to me seeking
information when they actually have more than I do. That is how I have
gotten lots of my information. Would love to have anything you can give me.
I recently bought Microsoft Frontpage and am reworking some of our pages.
Please let me know if you have any problems with the sites.
Look forward to hearing from you.
John
