Jenny,
Reuben Pattillo was my grandmother's grandfather. She lived with Reuben when her father, Wallace Corydon Houston, Sr, died in the flu epidemic of 1906. She said he spent a lot of time with her. My Grandmother, Josephine Houston, was born in 1900. Reuben died in 1911 I believe. Although she was just a little girl she remembered him well and sometimes spoke of the occasion when he and some others became trapped behind Union lines and were forced to hide out under a smoke house. I remember she told me that he was concerned because all they had to eat was old bread covered with green mold, but they were so hungry that they ate it anyway. She said he did not like to talk about the civil war very much. Understandably, she did not think too kindly of Gen Sherman. She died in 1989 and is buried in Macon, Georgia. I wish I had asked her more about my GG-grandfather. I hope this small bit of information is helpful.
